Also I have a flock of blue, black and splash Silkie hens over a buff silkie roo. I bred them a couple of months ago and out of the batch I got blues and blacks and an all white silkie! Is this even possible with the chickens I've got? I know the color blue can also turn out to be black or splash but I didn't know one could be all white. I've also got white Cochin frizzles but I separated them when I bred my silkies. When the chicks hatched, I had no idea that one of the chicks was going to be all white. Will it produce different colored babies including white since it is white?

My wonderful Bantam Cochin "Sally" hatched some eBay eggs for me just over a week ago. As always "Sally" did a great job and hatched 11 darling little chicks that supposedly came from someone that had "show quality" silkies. Well..... today I noticed at least 5 appear to be growing smooth feathers? The one right in the front in the above picture included. Are my eyes deceiving me, or did I pay top dollar for mixes? All have black skin and the extra toe, but something just doesn't seem quite right with the feathers???

My wonderful Bantam Cochin "Sally" hatched some eBay eggs for me just over a week ago. My silkies have that sometimes to. Some silkies have 1-3 inches of regular feathers and then they begin to become all silky

That's good to know. I've been mislead with hatching eggs this year on a couple occasions, I guess now I'm just paranoid.

So went to pick up a silkie today and the lady was off her rocker. First she kept trying to give me roosters. These were mature roosters. You could tell they were boys. Then she kept trying to get me to take some with straight combs even though I was looking for hens close to sop for my breeding program. She tells me her friend breeds for that comb and it's super desirable. I didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday. I finally took one with an eye injury just because it looked so pitiful. Ugh I hate dealing with people that don't take the time to know what they are breeding and outright lie. She told me these were close to sop on the phone..

What you're seeing is recessive white; you must have breed two carriers. It's pretty common in Silkie stock and hides in a few different color varieties. It will breed true (produce white offspring) if bred to another White or a White carrier. Bred to a non-white, it will revert to the coloration that the white is hiding; in this case, the result of B/B/S x Buff.
