Silkie thread!

Hello There,
You said your Silkies are 5-6 yrs old yeah?
Do they still lay eggs?
How many eggs a week does 1 of your Silkies lay?
Must be small like Spiro size small?

FYI - Velcro is on crow collars.  I don't use velcro (like on chicken diapers) because the fluffy fur of the Silkie feathers gets tangled in the velcro.

I understand your valid concern.
I've used my crow collars with great success on my silkie Roos. They get checked often in general and for any sign of agitation or possibility of debris getting caught. Amazingly no agitation of the skin, no tangles occurred with the feathers, no debris stuck thus far

It is important to make sure the Velcro part of the crow collar is at least a 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch within other material. This way the soft material is in contact with the feathers, rather than the clingy fingers of Velcro.

Struggling w/ diapers on Silkies w/ their 10 toes bicycling in the air to push away the straps, we found it easier to pin the diaper shoulder straps rather than using velcro which was tangling in the soft fur. I'm glad to hear someone's success story while using velcro around downy feathers!

6-yr-old Partridge Silkie

5-yr-old Black Silkie

Both hens still lay eggs, about 3 to 4 eggs/week when not molting or not broody. As pullets they were laying 6 eggs/week. My Silkies don't have a "season" for laying. They lay at all times of the year. The Black one is laying about 3 eggs a week during this rainy winter of ours.

My Silkies lay anywhere from 1.25-oz to 1.5-oz eggs.

SILKIE EGGS W/ ONE BROWN XL STORE EGG

MARANS, WHITE LEGHORN, BUFF LEGHORN, & 3 SILKIE EGGS (they aren't tiny eggs)

I just ordered some silkies from ideal hatchery and also an assortment of feathered feet which might include silkies, Cochin's, Brahma and D'uccles maybe didn't spell them correctly but I just hope they are not all rooster's, would like to have a mating pair eventually, so we will see how my luck goes

My chicks are feathering out and looking so fluffy. My splash is starting to get more black to it's feathers and my little white is looking less like a yellow puffball and more like a proper white. I really hope my two buff end up being a pair.

Jackie, my larger black silkie is broody yet again. In to the broody pen tomorrow as she is getting a bit thin and am not usually home from work after dark. I worry that she does not eat and drink enough. Do not have roos so she sits on anybody else's eggs. LOL usually Talula's, who is a white leg horn and lays huge eggs. Bless.
