Silkie thread!

Hello I am new to chicken farming. I have 6 chickens; 5 hens and 1 rooster. I have 2 leghorn mixes, 3 silkie/cochin mixes and 1 silkie.

My question is about the silkie. Her wings are really weird (assuming abnormal). Her feathers that are on the tip of her wings do not have any barbs/ barbules, only the veins. Should I be concerned? She is going to be a year old next month. She's broody (but nice about it) and a loner from the group. I have recently noticed her wings change around the same time she became broody. And clumps of her fluffy feathers on the ground... not at an alarming rate but I don't notice any other chicken's feathers anywhere.

That is weird. I am curious to see what everyone has to say about this.

Did she ever have full feathers on her wings? I have had a few frizzles that go through really rough molts and don't have full feathers on their wings.

I have just purchased this Silkie from a breeder, I am just wondering how you all clean your silkies?

I fill up the sink with warm water and use dog shampoo. Water will almost cover their back when they sit down for their spa soak.

I let mine out on grass and dirt so their foot feathers get nasty and must be soaked before scrubbed. All my birds seem to enjoy the baths. I wish the dogs would like the blow drying as much as the chickens seem to. Warm not hot air.

Then they get a nice clean cage for the next day until fully dry.

Others may have different ways to do it

Thank you, she seems to be settling in well.
