Silkie thread!

Hello I am new to chicken farming. I have 6 chickens; 5 hens and 1 rooster. I have 2 leghorn mixes, 3 silkie/cochin mixes and 1 silkie.

My question is about the silkie. Her wings are really weird (assuming abnormal). Her feathers that are on the tip of her wings do not have any barbs/ barbules, only the veins. Should I be concerned? She is going to be a year old next month. She's broody (but nice about it) and a loner from the group. I have recently noticed her wings change around the same time she became broody. And clumps of her fluffy feathers on the ground... not at an alarming rate but I don't notice any other chicken's feathers anywhere.

Check for lice or mites, but could just be molting... some molt as soon as they go broody, some after the chicks are hatched...

i will have 3 female day old silkie chicks for sale for pickup the week of arpil 24
must be placed with ONLY other silkies

5-6 a week is normal in my experience. When they are actually laying, they are my best layers. They go broody several times a year so they are not good producers.

I always have some silkie eggs to eat, though, no matter what time of year. Even if the large fowl are taking a break the silkies are dependable.

I have 19 mature hens. 5 are broody. I got 12 eggs yesterday and today.

That's amazing!!!

Aww so your selling them?

While the blue color visually looks gray, grays are actually slang for gray partridge/silver partridge...

So the Partridge in the APA is a Brown/Gold Partridge while Gray is Gray/Silver Partridge? Gosh, photos would be helpful in these descriptions. The Gray Silkies thread has so many variations of Gray. Guess it's sort of like the regular Partridge -- a large variety in shades of coloring.
