Silkie thread!

New coop put together. I bought it just for putting broody silkies and chicks in. I have the ladder hole blocked so no one can go down.

I picked the two broodies from Raditz' pen to go in there since my hens usually co-brood and there could be up to 15 chicks. It's just a change of location for the hens. They've been there and know the drill. One one left stole all the nest eggs and settled right in. They will be ready for chicks tomorrow.

That's a nice sized coop. Where did you find that one? I like it!

Would you consider sending me some eggs to hatch and hope I get more girls? I don't know what i'll do with 50 silkie roosters...... hubby's not a fan of butchering tiny chickens. lol

I really want blue/splash/lavendar/whites. LOL I have enough blacks lol red/partridge is okay, but I prefer the lighter colors.

Will have to see what I can do... I moved them temporarily as a predator got into their coop and killed my best splash hen just when she went broody... need to move them back and the commotion has them laying very sporadic right now... my main flock is a black over mostly blues and blacks and 1 splash now... I do also have a trio of whites but they're young and the pullets haven't started laying yet...

Ravyn...those pullets are from your eggs..and guess what?  The 7 I kept..were all pullets!

That is incredible news!!! So glad you got the pullets you wanted and of all the ones you wanted... :D

The Costco here had them for $300. It's like 5 foot by 5 foot and even came with a sturdy wire skirting to attach. I can crawl into the bottom just fine and I'm a fat person. I should have gotten 2 of them.

It came with plastic to line the planting bed area and keep soil and water in. I may just leave that off since it's only about 6 inches deep.

Only small kit coop I've seen with truth in how many hens it holds. It says 3 on the box. 6-7 if they only sleep in it and free range all day.

A dozen chicks are hatched. Just waiting for a bit before I open the incubator and candle the rest.

I hate the waiting during hatch

4 weeks old. I am curious as to difference in their combs. I think they might be mutts. Doesn't matter as I love them anyways. Just curious.

Dozen is my count. Other eggs are dead. I split them between the two broodies. Not that it matters with both hens side by side.
