Silkie thread!

No! I got the silkie from a friend that breeds them and I got the other three from a local lady that has a mixed backyard flock. I'm going to rehome him but I'm having a hard time finding anyone that has a pullet or hen to sell me. I don't want to go through possibly having to rehome a 4th roo!

The best way to get hens is to get a straight run of chicks and deal with the roosters. Once breeders invest in their pullets and rehome the cockerels, they want to reap tbe rewards of their investment rather than losing money to sell pullets or hens. The only time I sell hens is to replace them with something higher quality once they are older and not laying as much. I have sold pullets at times if they are not the quality I want but it is rare that I keep chicks to raise that are not high quality. I will sell hatch groups at 3 days old that are high quality before I put much feed and time into raising them but once they are ready to go outside they are easier to care for so at that point I tend to sell cockerels only, not pullets.

I understand

My parents probably would have said no anyway lol

How far upstate are you? I am near the NC/SC border. I breed cuckoo sizzles and won't have any chicks anytime soon, but may have some older birds.

Will have to see what I can do... I moved them temporarily as a predator got into their coop and killed my best splash hen just when she went broody... need to move them back and the commotion has them laying very sporadic right now... my main flock is a black over mostly blues and blacks and 1 splash now... I do also have a trio of whites but they're young and the pullets haven't started laying yet...
That is incredible news!!! So glad you got the pullets you wanted and of all the ones you wanted...
