Silkie thread!

Adorable! Will be beautiful, with or without. I haven't had a buff in a while..will share a buff I had once. It was ridiculously puffy! In fact, a bit much for me. I guess I don't mind the top, but the beard is way puffy!

She does look like those! I got them from our local rural king who had everything all messed up. I got wrong sexes, wrong breeds! Horrible place to get birds! I got 2 chicks that were supposed to be light brahmas and they are porcelain d'uccles!!! They are absolutely beautiful but still wrong breed.

Yep, starting a backyard flock teaches us a lot about the wrong and right things to do. I made some mistakes but luckily found good homes for my birds (which is not easy in city limits). I'm picky about using only a couple/three breeders to order from. I don't deal with chicks but get half-grown juveniles where I know what the sex is from the start. I've ordered from supposedly reputable breeders and been disappointed so I research, research, research before ordering. My local feed store had lovely chicks sometimes but I don't want to deal with chicks and the store doesn't always carry the breeds I want.

Yes, I think she was 4 or 5 weeks in this pic. She's almost 7 weeks now, and it hasn't changed. These are my first chickens, so maybe I'll be surprised and she'll start sprouting some feathers, but I'm ok either way. She's more or less a pet, and her little raptor face is endearing

Some of the non-bearded Silkie varieties seem to have less vaulted skulls and less crests but still nevertheless are Silkies

I know that's right!!! My friend has Easter eggers and I told her I would get one from her when it gets about 3-4 weeks old. I got 2, possibly 3 roosters out of 7 chicks!

I'm completely new to all this and first place you go to is the local feed store.

It's been raining again. This silkie rooster is in love with the brahmas so he follows them everywhere. Unfortunately the hens don't care if its raining.

Hello silkie friends! You guys have any idea on the sex of these chicks? Just 2, white and black both 6 weeks old. The black is smaller in size and is showing some blue tinge to the adult feathers. Many thanks :)

If you guys are looking to find out if your chick is a hen or a rooster flip them upside down and hold them by the feet. After you do that if they start to freak out they are roosters but if not then they are hens.

You can be about as accurate with this as you can with a coin flip. This is only 50/50 accurate, the proof being my one hen also freaked out and two of my roosters didn't.
