Silkie thread!

People of the Silkie thread, I have a question lol. I bought some silkies last year at TSC and they were marked as Silkie Bantams, but now that I think about it they are about the same size as my sex links and bigger than my Bantams... is that normal? Are they still considered silkie Bantams?

Show some pics of the different sizes of your flock.

At 5 1/2 weeks I'm assuming male on this one. Is it normal for a silkie this young to developed such a pink comb? I was worried it was getting pecked on but there's no sign of it.

Had same problem, with my TSC silkie Bantams, they were rather larger. I assumed just the hatchery stock\quaility.

I am planning to buy a silkie but I free range all of my birds. How well do they handle free ranging. Also are they nice birds or do they have an attitude?

Silkies have great attitudes but their free range is poor because their hair hangs in their face and its easier for a predator to get them. Also they're bad flyers and a predator can get them easily that way too. But they make wonderful lap birds and love attention!

They can't see well enough to avoid predators.

I have some extra silkie roosters in with my large fowl who free range, but that only works because those old hens keep a very good watch. The hens have also groomed the crests back on the boys.
