Since I am a newbie trying to learn everything I can, how do I tell if they have nice toe spacing? I have some nice eggs due to hatch on the 19th

Well, first of all, I was thrilled they all had five toes! Haha. I notice that the biggest problem I see with spacing is that the fourth and fifth toe are too close together. You can see in the picture of the one looking straight on at the camera that the toes are all nicely spaced apart from eachother.

Oh! Perfect photo to demon straight with. When I got my first silkie chicks from the feed store and later realized they had five toes, I thought they were all cockerels!

You have to have a paint to create paints. This idea that you can mix black & white to make paint is wrong, entirely different genetics affecting the appearance of paint markings.

It appears you can breed to just about anything to get more paints. I've bred them back to recessive white, had paint chicks with no pigment holes. Another breeder put them with partridge and got paints, black, white and now I forget if she also got partridge.

It is not known at this time if solid color chicks from paint carry the paint genes necessary to create paint. But there is some discussion that they do not.
