It appears you can breed to just about anything to get more paints. I've bred them back to recessive white, had paint chicks with no pigment holes. Another breeder put them with partridge and got paints, black, white and now I forget if she also got partridge.
It is not known at this time if solid color chicks from paint carry the paint genes necessary to create paint. But there is some discussion that they do not.
