Silkie thread!

We almost had a disaster tonight. Our young, hormonal gander decided to make a move on our little broody silkie. Thankful, I was out there to take her but the baby took off and was nowhere to be found. Mama had no clue where she'd gone and neither did I. It took at least a half hour but we eventually found her, hidden Bertram a log and a wall, perfectly hidden. I didn't even see her when I first moved the log! She and her mama are happily back together and fine. Gander got himself thrown in jail for the rest of the night and threatened to become a Christmas goose.
Glad there both safe.

These warm days we are having in NY made my silkies and showgirls very photogenic. I have over 60 birds but these are a few who were feeling beautiful....and handsome...

Does anyone on here know if silkie sexlink crosses are quality layers? I know silkies aren’t known for being the best layers because of their tendency to go broody but sexlink are super layers, does mixing the two end up with a hen that lays well?

In my experience, mixing silkie with something else can only result in a hen that goes broody. Good way to add broodiness into a barnyard line and make it self sustaining.

Sexlinks are crosses done to easily sex the chicks. They are not a breed. I've done sexlinked crosses using a silver based rooster and gold based hens on my ameraucanas and EEs and brahmas.

So the saddle crippled her to the point she couldn't walk. At least until she got a burst of energy to try and outrun it. Hens who have worn them before sometimes can actually get the things off

Omg Ashes is a little jerk. I let the bachelor boys out into the central area and they can come up to his pen gate. So he dragged a hen over to the gate and mounted her in front of them.

It's dusk and she just ran off to the coop. Maybe it taught her to not be the last hen in. Ashes is still standing by the gate mocking the boys.
