Silkie thread!

Depends on exactly what the markings mean. Do they mean that one parent is lavender and the other split to lavender, or do they mean that the resulting chicklets should be black split to lavender? (one parent black, one lavender)

Around eight weeks. He couldn't tell me exact day. She's adorable. <3 Loving her fluff!

Around 8 weeks?
What.. Then how old is are the young silkies I got yesterday? How old does the splash look? The guy who sold us the silkies said that they were 8 weeks, and the smaller ones were almost 2 months old.

It's been awhile since mine were that age but it looks about 4 or 5 weeks to me.

Hi, I am in Michigan, and new to Silkies. I got 5 for my oldest boy. He's 5 and wanted chickens and I had read that they were the number one choice for kids. So far they are great. I want more.

I have a problem tho... How can I tell if I have all roos? I think, well am pretty certain that I have 4 roos and 1 hen, but I am thinking that one of the roos may be a hen... I kept trying to get pictures of them tonight, but the little heathens wouldn't stay still. Just as I'd go to snap a pic, they'd take off. Think I will have to put them on the table so they will stay still. They are about 4 months old...

Page 652 of this thread has a photo of a six week chick but there's nothing to compare size with.

She/he looks young to me. I would second the five weeks estimation. Not that I'm an expert or anything..

well we now have 22 that have hatched out of 33 so far with at least 5 more with pips in the eggs and we have 13 hrs before the start of day 22 so there is time for the other 6 that has not piped yet to pip. will post pictures later if i can get a good picture of them in the incubator since i am not taking them out untill after day 22 starts to make sure the others do not get messed up and to make sure that they all dry and fluff out real good

i have hatched black/lav split before it means that you have a 50 percent chance of getting a lavender chick and 50 percent that you will get a black chick with some yellow on the tips of its wings and under its belly and that it carrys the lavender gene so if you mate the black one then its offspring has a 50 50 chance of being black of lav
