Silkie thread!

I have 2 questions at the moment.

1.) how long do breeders grow out their birds typically?

2.) do any of you ship silkie eggs? And what do you charge?

I’m trying to get everything figured out before spring time.

I grow mine out until I can sex them, and know what their feathering will look like as an adult. So usually til about 4 months old. Sometimes I can tell if it's a keeper or not when they are younger and will sell younger birds. Also, I ship eggs and charge $75. That includes priority shipping.

He /she was sold to me as black. Parents were white roo and black hen. His (base feathers?) are a very light grey/silver. Will this chick be black or molt into another color? ( not that it matters, but speculating is fun. My vote is also on cockerel, that's left to be seen. )View attachment 1172002

Your chick is blue so will look similar to my adult Silkie in the photo.

Thank you! Is $75 for 1 dozen or 6 eggs?

What colors do you get? I might get ahold of you in the spring for some eggs.

I keep everyone in one pen and I have a white, black, and a splash roo. Will also have blue cream in their own pen and will have a buff roo added to the group pen. I also get paint and partridge. Mind you I do have a couple showgirl silkies so you might get those as well. If you on me, I can get you photos of some of my birds.

Thanks! I have a Buff cockerel, black, splash, white, lavender(I think) and Buff pullets. I just started with silkies this summer but I want more colors added to my group. I’ll pm you :)

This morning my hen that started laying last week was staying in the nest box after she layed, I was surprised she layed again today because she has been laying every other day. So I took her out and put her over by the food. While she was eating I took her egg and the plastic ones that I had been leaving in there, training her to use the nest box. I don’t want to hatch chicks in the winter. When she was done eating she went back to the empty nest and is digging around and wandering around the outside of the nest box making a call, seems like she is looking for the eggs. Should I put the fake eggs back or will she get over it?
