Silkie thread!

Well you did have a 50/50 chance of picking females!🤣
I randomly also ended up with the only three females out of my hatch! I sold all the rest as day old chicks and regretted it for a long time that I didn’t hang onto them longer, but when I found out later that they all ended up being boys I was actually quite happy about my early decision! Thankfully they all ended up in good homes!😊

Do you keep your chickens in the house full-time? Do you put diapers on them or are they housetrained? I have heard this is not impossible but challenging to do!😊
They are 100% indoors.. i can't have a coop where I'm at, and at this point,i just have a good easy routine, so it would be more work with an outdoor space.

So the duccles love napping on the sofa.. i think they are using it as a nest... they lay completely flat and zonk out.. so i think that's why they aren't pooping on it, just because it's their clean egg spot(itll be funny if i end up with an egg there!!) The silkies seem to go anywhere!

i got 2 diapers for the duccles.. need to get a larger size to accommodate the fluff on the silkies. But i just bought this playpen gate.. they seem to be happy enough to run in and out of their coop within that area. And if they poop, no biggie, i just wipe it up. But now that they're older, seems like there aren't as many poops.

I would have cried if i had to rehome that many boys! Good decision selling them early. Gives people time to bond with their little nugget before it gets big.

That’s so awesome you keep them inside! I brooded all my chicks indoors and my last batch, which are my friendliest though none of them are Silkies, it broke my heart when I had to move them outside. They were so sweet and followed me around the house and when I sat on the floor they all got into my lap. Still miss that, though they still sit in my lap outside in the coop!🥰

Well i think if a coop was an option, i wouldnt have even thought about a house chicken!! In fact, i had given up on my chicken dreams from ten years back.. until i saw a craigslist ad for a parrot cage --- that could fit small chickens.. i immediately called the feed/pet store asking about silkies, and they just got a batch of bantam assortments the hour prior!! 2 hours later i had a handful of chicks, lamp, feed, bedding, cage 🤣 honestly.. this was meant to be!

check out the comb on minnie.. it went from itty bitty to wow in 2 weeks! She had little wattles too! 🥰 i love their cheeks.. but im expecting her to pop with eggs any day now! I need to get a nest ready asap. It seems like silkies have their own individual time schedule, so i really don't know when to expect eggs from them. They both just grew big wattles in a weeks time though! Not sure if that's a sign.

Could be time to get that nest box ready!😊
They are going to have a shoe box temporarily. I will line it with pine shavings for now.. or torn up t-shirts. They love the sofa, so I'm thinking they might like cloth in the box better. I have a tree branch that needs to go in first, i want everyone off the floor before eggs start coming! I did buy a ceramic egg the other day to get them used to what they'll be seeing!! Im super excited.

Had to post this photo that my daughter took yesterday of Layla, a 19 week old splash. Her tail is simply amazing! She’s not the friendliest chick, does not like being picked up or held, also the smallest of the 4 that I have, but her beauty makes up for it I suppose!😂

She's knows she's beautiful, that's all 😂

Nala, my partridge, was not very friendly either, but just started laying last week at 20 weeks and is now cuddly!! So there is hope!
