Thanks very much for the analysis.......I got him from some breeder near Lex. but from the looks of the place, I wasn't even sure he was really purebred. I needed a couple of chicks to keep a single hatch chick company and theirs were about the right age. I just like his coloring and would not show him. At the moment, I do not need more chickens so I will just collect my eggs and not do any hatching except for My Seramas. He was just so different looking that I wondered what I had and I really appreciate the time you took to answer me. I'll just go on loving him!
Been doing this a while. Actually I'm surprised how long I've been raising Silkies because it just doesn't seem like it. In the beginning I thought my attachment to the oddballs was that they were new to me. Fast forward a few years and it remains the same, the oddballs are my favorites. I've managed to breed some very nice birds but they lack something. For most of them its personality. Maybe without the occasional oddball popping up I wouldn't be raising them now. Who knows. Every coop needs a special bird or two.
I know just what you mean even though I have only been doing this for a year and a half or so. I have been all over the board with breeds that I thought I would enjoy having. Kind of a sampling of all these fun breeds but the silkies are always one of the first breeds to catch ones eye. I have about 4 of them and my friendliest one is my white roo who has to sit on my lap if I sit down in the pen. He ATTACKS anyone who comes into the pen but he's always wanting my attention. Such beautiful birds!
