Silkie thread!

theyre so funny! I had a group of silkies who didnt have a clue about their nice new doghouse filled with shavings. I went out to check on them at dusk and they were gone! Nooo, there they were piled and smashed into a corner between the doghouse and fencing! LOL I shouldve taken a picture.
I have a small coop for 4 of my silkie hens with a ramp, its about 2ft high. I only feed and water them in the top, so they have to come up the ramp, but I did have to go out each night and show them how, LOL. Now they go up and down ok, but Ill bet when I trim their crests a little, it will help.
Others say their silkies never learn the ramp system, and still others say theirs fly up to a roost.

I use ramps, covered with Indoor Outdoor carpet cut to fit. This works for me. They first learn to go down but you have to teach them to go up. I place them on the ramps at dusk. Some go up

, some go down and some jump off. But, they will learn. Once 1 or 2 get it, the others usually follow.
They love the loft section of their condo/coop!

Must see more pics of that coop!!! I think I will copy your carpeted ramp idea, since mine like to hang out on the ramp...

Some of my rag tag silkies in with my mixed flock. They use the ladders with no problem and they can also fly up.
