Please help, I think my splash just broke her leg!! What do I do!?!

What happened?

If it really is broken, you will need to stabilize it and her, then splint the leg (with the bone as properly aligned as you can) and keep her contained so that she cannot easily further injure herself. If you have a vet available, that would be good.

HI everyone , Im a newish silkie mom and I have a few silkie questions ,
#1 , how do you keep the fluff clean , especally the feet but she is like a baby learning to eat Im libale to find poop or what not anywhere includeing the top of her poof an its some pretty big poof.



#2 , Do silkies get hot easy more then regular chickens my silkie tends to sit with her mouth open when we have been cuddleing for awhile or like yesterday when I had her with me in a diaper bag .

#3 She was born with a bad leg I was wondering are all silkies this calm and cuddley or did she just go with what she got since she dosnt walk that great.

I am not completely sure. I just went out into the coop and noticed that she couldn't walk but think she might this for 24 hrs or so . My husband let them out yesterday and I'm not sure if he checked on them when he did. I checked her vent and it looked clear but she had poop on her like she might have been on the ground for a bit. I have never had an injured chicken so I'm not sure what to do. What do you bathe chickens with so they don't get hurt?

I find it all the same, actually -- useless. Don't mean to sound harsh, but I bought into the DE thing back in the day. However, I have never had any benefit from DE and having now read what little scientific research on it I can find I have concluded that much of what we hear about DE is just hype. Don't waste your money.

By and large I agree with this. One of the folks on the Arizona thread has a bit of a scientific bent, and she did some personal testing on DE. Her results was that it is helpful, but VERY slow to work, and is certainly not a miracle cure.

So what would be a good product for bug prevention? Our chickens have no bugs but I'd like to start putting something in their coop and run to prevent things from starting.

Some ideas for the splinting are to use Popsicle sticks and then wrap with VetWrap, an ace bandage, a roll of self stick gauze or even strips of fabric...anything to hold the splint in place without slipping. If the leg is broken and reset, you can use the homeopathic remedy called Symphytum to help the bones knit back together. This remedy works great for humans and animals. We once had a baby bunny break its leg. The vet put on a cast and we gave it Symphytum. The leg healed beautifully and the vet was impressed.

#1: well you can give her a bath every once in awhile. But make sure she gets dry right away after
#2: I am not sure actually.. I would think that others would get hot easier since they have more of a coat but im sure somebody else knows..

My silkies get hot easily. especiallly my little one who I cuddle and take places, she gets very hot and pants.
