Silkie thread!

post a photo and you'll get some additional opinions.  Also, a henny feathered male will be patterned and coloured like a female.

What is a henny feathered male? Haven't heard that before.

Will take a photo in the morning v
Campines and Sebrights are breeds that are henny feathered (where the males don't have the long hackles, saddles and sickles).

Though the gene can be found in other breeds as well.
I haven't seen it in any others yet.

Ok Silkie peeps, I will be popping in from now on. I just got 4 one and a half week old Silkies from Marge Best for my DW today. She fell in love with one at the fair this summer and have been working to get them since. Nice early Christmas present. One Dark Blue or Black, she couldn't really determine. A Paint, a Porcelain and a Partridge. Yay
Welcome to the silkie addicts group! :)
I love these silkies. I finally got some this past spring. I hade to drive 9 hours but it was worth it. Here are a few pics. I realy don't know anything about silkies but i have been loooking for two years. They are the most gentle chickens i've ever had. The only problem i am having is colour. I have two splash, two black, and three white. I have two roos, one black and one white. When eggs started hatching i was very surprised. (not that eggs were hatching) lol. The colours of some of the chicks is hard to figure out. I have included pics (if i did it right that is). One pic i had to add because everytime this chick would sleep he lays with his legs spread. The first couple of times i checked on the incu babys i thought this chick had passed. Anyway here they are, can anyone tell me if some of these chicks are blue? Thanks Angie.

Your babies look blue, black and splash to me. The baby on it's back may have spraddle legs. Does it walk okay?
Can someone post or explain the SType and YType bodies they should have. I forgot to ask Marge what type she has. I can ask her, but would also like to see the difference. Thanks
I would guess this would be "Y" type. Neck carried forward and straight.

Good Morning,
I've been checking my silkie hen's eggs for fertility for over a month but haven't seen that obvious "target" around the "white spot". However, this egg does seem to have a bulls-eye appearance. (Or is it wishful thinking?) Is Mysty Blue's egg fertile?

One of my little splash hens is sitting on her egg today. :) One thing tho, is we have an issue with doors. We have to change the coops make the doors for the Silkies to go out. I take them all out on nice days (into a covered run/pen), bring them in at night. Should I let her out some during the day? It's going to get cold soon, don't know if the egg will get too cold.

And....on another note.... CATDANCE EGGS ORDERED (my Christmas present).

Yay for your hen! ;) Just me but I would just probably leave her in with access to food and water. She probably wont care about going out. What color eggs?? I sure am loving the girls I got from Karen :)
