Ok, thanks so much! We have no worries now because we killed the coon! Turned out to be a whopping 25-30 pounds! He was the only coon on the property thanks god!

Brrrrr reading your story gave me goose bumps. I am so sorry for you and your family went through. Take care of that little fighter and if I were you I will proof that coop even though the coon is "gone"... you never know, another one could come back.We started with four white silkie chicks about a month old, one blue silkie hen, a partridge silkie chick about four months, and I just got a drop dead gorgeous partridge silkie roo. Three out of four white silkies got eaten ( ones still living,) blue hen died of bucholism, the gorgeous roo got eaten three days ago, and the raccoon also grabbed the partridge silkies wing and ripped it clean off. She only has one wing now... Anything I need to worry about?![]()
Tomorrow morning I will take a pictures of my silkies. They all roost... and pretty high. I really like it because it makes the cleaning a lot easier. I just scoop with the kitty litter in the pooping board et voila! So, I'm setting up my new coop.. I have 3 questions:
___ * Where do your silkies sleep?
I know they like to make a pile, and mine do too. I am trying to make a nice little area for them but every night they are in a different spot.
___ * Would they like to roost if I put a bar about 2" - 3" off the ground?
___ * Also, do they poop in their sleeping spot all night like birds on a roost do?
Can anyone share pictures of their silkie beds?.... Thanks!![]()
Seems to happen fairly often here. And sometimes the one they try to crawl under decides to crawl under them in response!Sonoran, is it typical for one of the chicks to try and always get under the other chicks bellies? The little Paint keeps doing it. I think it is a couple of days younger than the other 3. But I never had this happen with my LF, raised 9 now from day olds.

When you have had a coon on your property you can be sure you will have more in the future.Ok, thanks so much! We have no worries now because we killed the coon! Turned out to be a whopping 25-30 pounds! He was the only coon on the property thanks god!
Good idea.put betadine on it, it will clean it without stinging and hopefully keep out infection.
