I've just started with my silkies and i love them!!

Simply adorable Mumsy! Haven't seen you over in the Road Less Traveled lately! How's things? Your grey silkies? Are they doing well? Gotta say. My silkies aren't the brightest things. I built a feeder way back in the coop. All the other birds found it no problem, but the silkies were starving themselves and did not find it since Thursday. Crazy things.. I have to have a separate feeder outside, because they like to spend most of their time up against the barn.

Only silkies that eat out of it, are Janet's three babies. She is STILL mothering them, and they are 3 months old! Doesn't she look tired? LOL Being a single mother is tough!

Maybe she's waiting for them to loose their fuzz, lol.

So I have raised 2 batches of LF chicks now and this is my first Silkie group. Do the Silkies sleep more than the LF chicks? They are not lethargic, just sleep more than my other chicks did.

Yep. They are much less active in my experience.

Don't you love it when someone you have only known through a facebook group, you have never met, you haven't even had long conversations with, see's that you haven't been on in a while and sends you a message because they are worried about you and then when I didn't respond right away took the time to call me? We have never even talked on the phone before...truly an act of kindness to me and I feel so blessed by the fact she reached out to me. Love you Pam!!!

That is impressive.

It's nice to know that there are people like that left out there in the world!

I have another question... some of you guys told me he is gray...but there is no gray color. Is he splash? I thought he was. I thought "gray" was called blue as well. As just a lighter smoky black. Thanks for the help!

My rooster is grey, this is what he looks like. He has some black on his tail feathers. Almost looks like a columbian. I'm stil trying to find a columbian hen for him...or one of those buffs with some black to see if he would produce columbian chicks.

I wish my 5 and a half month old cockerel had a chest like that. lol Maybe he hasn't discovered his inner macho yet.

I had a hen that took care of her babies up to almost 4 months!

She was about a year old at the time and those were the first eggs she hatched. She only had 3 chicks but boy was she a GOOD mom. If you went anywhere near those chicks, she would come attack you!

Hi guys! I dont' know if anyone replied to any of my other questions from a few days back, but I dont' have the time to go through 15 pages LOL. its been a crazy weekend, entailing me getting stuck in a differnet state with a broken down car. anyways... So, I do have a question though. Do roosters only chest bump and flare their hackle feathers out with other roosters? Or do they also do this with the ladies? I've never had roosters before and I don't know who is who right now

My girls are as likely (or more) to spar than are the boys. And yes, hackles flare and chests bump and they jump and bite at each other. A hen fight is as bad as the boys fighting except that most girls don;t have spurs that can cause damage.

BUT, will the roosters do that to a hen? I am noticing the roosters doing that to two of the "I'm not sure what they are yet"...
