Silkie thread!

Got my CatDance eggs today!! 18 perfectly wrapped, non broken eggs! Thanks Karen! I think the PO thought they were doing me a favor by putting them in the fridge or something :) I've got them gradually warming up on the heat vents, before I put them in the 'bator. Yay!

Quote: Oops and I meant to say full roof, not fall. Anyway, when I said half dug. I meant the bottom of the egg was buried, the top half was clean (and green). It's the whole reason it caught my behind the feeder. Believe me, I spent a long time trying to come up with a logical explanation. About four months ago, there were a few araucana living in that pen, they were raised with my silkie babies. But they were moved out long before they started to lay. Even now, I've only gotten about three eggs from them in months. But this egg has the heft of a fresh egg.

I'm going to put it in an incubator, there's always room! If it doesn't start to develop I'll open it up. A blue shell should be blue all the way through to the inside.

Usually they are white on the inside. My green eggs. My brown too.

Well I hope it hatches! Please let us know!

The genetics of shell color, the blue goes all the way through (other than the membrane of course). It may just be pale in something like an EEer. Anyway, that's the reason you can overlay it with a brown gene (which is only a topcoat of color) and produce OEers. One of my projects. I have a couple of spare Ameraucanas and an Araucana with a residual tail. They are going into my BCM pen. I just love those dark khaki/olive green eggs from OEer.

The most beautiful inside color I've seen was from Crested Legbars, the blue inside the shell is very intense. But I'm not sparing those girls for a breeding project. Maybe if I were overrun with them, but I only have five.

I live in CT also. How many Silkies do you have? We have about a dozen and don't think they need a heat lamp yet. I did turn it on a while back when we had one of those really cold nights. I just go by feel myself, I've had chickens for a couple of years so I'm not an expert.

Maybe someone else can give you an actual temperature?
