Silkie thread!

Quick question. Can you use a ceramic heat emitter at night instead of a red bulb? We have some from a friend when he got out of reptiles and they give off heat very well and wouldn't keep me up at night like a bulb would while still keeping the temps proper(I'm planning on keeping the brooder in my bedroom).

I would say yes because when I wanted to buy one for my hermit crab tank they had them at the feed store for use with chicks.

Just be aware they get super hot so with our crabs we use with a thermostat so they don't get cooked.

Hermit crabs dont need much heat though XD. I was planning on getting a thermostat or a dimmer for it. I used to have a tank. They were awesome little guys. We lost them two winters ago to a power outage sadly

Well these are the ones I hatched from the chickens I bought here in Maine.  Not a very good line :(  Not fluffy enough for me, so I'm going to sell these as pet quality birds.  I have some in the incubator right now on day 11 I bought on here from MRobbins.  Someone recommended her or Catdance to me.  I'm pumped!  The pictures of hers are the fluffiest little suckers!  Let me know when you hatch yours out!

I will post pics if mine when they hatch. The ones I have now are from MRobbins. I love mine they are very cute and fluffy. I will have to take some pictures of them and post them up.

Pictures of our silkies. We have started collecting eggs and are going to fire up the incubator soon for these guys. Can't wait to see what hatches.

Also have some Catdance eggs coming too!!
Georgio, she was named before we knew she was a girl. Sorry for the messy faces!
This is Paris. She reminds me of a little dog you would carry in your purse.
This Snow. She's very dirty!
This is Snow's man, Tesla.
this is Splash.
This is Cinnamon. He's shy and sweet. He is a buff but it's hard to tell in this picture.

HaHa, she does think she is the queen (or a centerfold), but she is the sweetest, most cuddly chicken. Cinnamuffin will stick her chest out like "look at me"! I'd like to enter her in a poultry show next year. She would be perfect because if she isn't bending over eating, she is literally standing in that 'S' shape that judges look for. So, she wouldn't mind being caged up either.
Go for it!

I'm taking a couple of my silkies & cochins to a show or two this year. I tried a local fair last summer, it was fun.

This year I'll birds that are much nicer.

I made my silkies come outside a bit ago :) I stuck them in the driveway where there was a patch of dirt/grass. They loved it! :) Pictures to follow
