Silkie thread!

It's funny. I like that cross boy better than the regular silkies he's with> He's stunning!!

Well....that was the last picture I ever got of him. I found him dead this morning in the wyandotte pen. I don't know how or why he got in there, but it looks like the wyandotte rooster attacked him and managed to peck the soft spot on his head, killing him, based on the little bloody spot there. He was such a beautiful boy, still a baby. I'm going to miss him so much :(

Cool! I'm about 1 mile from the cumberland county line LOL, but in York county! really cool! do you have any white silkies? what colors do you have?
I have white, partridge, black, and splash. I also have some sizzle roos that i am planning on breeding too. I just need a couple more silkie hens for them.

I always read that they should have a black head, but haven't seen one with a darker head until now! I think that's a very nice blue color. I'm not a pro, but from what I've read, it's supposed to be. - Pam
I'm not saying my girls are up to the color standard but at least it shows the dark head vs. lighter body.

This picture cracks me up every time I see it.

Actually, your non bearded doesn't look too bad. Non-beardeds look different than beardeds, I don't think they are quite up the the quality of the beardeds yet. But I know you should not breed a non-bearded to a bearded, you should stick to bxb or nbxnb
The non-bearded pullet has GREAT foot feathering. Best I've ever seen. The cushion just isn't great but that's ok, she's just a pet. I wasn't planning on breeding her. The bearded one was the one I was thinking of breeding to my cockerel (bearded).

here is my blue girl...she definitely has a dark head and lighter body...of course she wouldn't pose for me...

Very pretty. Mine never pose for me either...especially when I wish they would.

I am also in Maine! :) Near Augusta.

Just hatched out 15 silkies. Paints and grays and a blue looking one.
Awww how cute!! I am getting ready to fire up our incubator and hatch some of our silkie eggs. I also just ordered some Catdance silkie eggs too. Got to just love those fluffy silkies!!

Well these are the ones I hatched from the chickens I bought here in Maine. Not a very good line :( Not fluffy enough for me, so I'm going to sell these as pet quality birds. I have some in the incubator right now on day 11 I bought on here from MRobbins. Someone recommended her or Catdance to me. I'm pumped! The pictures of hers are the fluffiest little suckers! Let me know when you hatch yours out!

I posted a couple of weeks back complaining about my lack of eggs (and the girls beating the pulp out of my poor roo when he tried to be friendly with them). I left this past Thursday for my little holiday vacation-which wasn't much of a vacay at all since I worried about my sweet little birds the whole time. My hubby was taking care of them while I was away, guess I can give him a little more credit now :-D Anyway, I got back late last night so, I didn't get to see them until this morning. When I let them out of the coop, I found 2 cute little eggs inside a cute little nest. One light and one dark, one of them was still very warm so I just missed whoever laid it! I put them in the fridge, but I'm gonna let them get past the pullet egg phase and then get my bator out and see if they make beautiful babies! I'm so excited!!!!! EGGS FINALLY, I only had to wait 9 months for them!
