Silkie thread!

I just put 7 more of my project silkies in lockdown. These are the last I will be hatching until spring.

that they make it and I get a few more the color I am looking for!

Just hatched some 'silkies' and it looks like I have my first instance of cross breeding. My barred rock rooster got to one of my silkie hens, as did one of my NN roosters. LOL. Oh dear. I can only imagine what they will look like full grown.

There is one left to hatch, but I'd be surprised if it was pure at this rate :p

2 are white, and they have light skin. The only rooster I have seen attempt them silkies is my NN, so I'm going with him for those two.

Just goes to show a standard heavy rooster can mate a bantam hen. Poor hen though!

Good news, I don't remember who was saying my Partridge may have wry neck, but she is getting better. She has been on poly/vit-e drops twice a day for 3 days now and she is not always looking straight down. She can look straight ahead now, not sure if she will ever be able to look up without cocking her head, but gonna keep up treatments for another week or so.

My fav girl is looking like a lumpy fluffy cloud

can you believe i trimmed her crest and beard a few weeks back? Not drastically, but enough so she could see better than she did. (She was running into stuff and pecking the air blindly

) The thing is, if she's walking around normally with her head out, she can see. But sometimes it's like she doesn't want to. She'll tuck her head back like this and shut out the world for a little while.
She definitely looks like a cloud! Awesome girl!!

from feathersite:

Thanks!!
our two silkies

Their names are sun and shine they are my daughter's and she named them lol
Beautiful colors! I love the names kids pick!

DO IT! Seriously, get the bator! I got one this past Spring (an LG, traded some hatching eggs for it- SCORE) and I've had sooooo much fun with it. No facility for humidity measurement means it doesn't come with a hygrometer, but you can find them at Walmart and just about any pet store that sells reptile supplies, I don't even use a hygrometer and I still get good hatches. You should go and read through the Incubating and Hatching Eggs section, in fact, its very possible the Brisnea has its own thread there. BEWARE- once you get your bator you'll discover you have a very addictive personality. Its a terrible, TERRIBLE disease! Good luck!

P.S- I'm setting some Silkie eggs today

"DO IT!"

If somebody was trying to talk theirselves out of doing something, you guys here on this thread definitely would NOT be very helpful. lol
I'm pretty sure I'm ordering an incubator this year. I'll have to check with the boss. There might be one here at the farm somewhere I could use. But I really want one of my own.

Then I can hatch a gazillion chicks and nobody will know.....until it's time for them to move outdoors. That might not go over so well.

BUT! To my defense! I have been really good about not keeping all the chicks, only the good ones stay. lol

Yup... I'll be in trouble this year with all my chickens.

I haven't even used an incubator yet and I already have the disease.

Who are some silkie breeders with top quality birds that sells hatching eggs I know of cat dance and that's it.
Also where do you find the specifications of what a silkie should look like.
I ordered a dozen eggs from Catdance and thinking of Bobbi Porto for the next load. http://www.indigoegg.us/index.html

What kind of a project are you working on, if I may ask?
