I started at 5 weeksSo my DW wants to know at what age can she start bathing and blow drying the Silkies? She thinks it is cool that you can do that. Ours are currently 6-8 weeks old and mostly feathered in.
Picked up my Catdance silkie eggs today!!! Sooo excited, I cant wait till they hatch. They are sitting right now and tomorrow I will put them in the incubator. Now my incubator will be full!! At least for the next few weeks.....![]()
Yeah, I was planning on showing him.I believe it is a fault if you are showing.
Looks like this one but not as thick. He's only 5 months old though so I'm thinking they might get bigger as he grows.
I'm wondering the same thing, only my silkies won't let me catch them, let alone touch them or hold still for a feather clipping. I'm wondering if I can find a livestock vet to do it.
Yeah do take some. This was a pullet too so does his comb look just like hers?![]()

It's not a DQ though, is it?

I'll have to take some pictures....now that I have a brand new camera that works!![]()
Thanks Appps. You're absolutely right. The only time I can touch my silkies is when they've gone to bed. I guess because they're too tired to run away. I'll try it then. Great idea. Thanks again.I've done mine a few times now. I just picked curved end scissors.
I wait till she is settling for bed then just pick her up out of the box. It's a lot easier than I thought it would be.
Just watch for any pin feathers and try and avoid those. Mostly it's just downy fluff round close to the eyes though and I just keep trimming it back a little at a time.
I think she knows I'm helping because its the only time she sits still.
No, his looks like a cockerel comb..at least to my eye.Yeah do take some. This was a pullet too so does his comb look just like hers?
I started at 5 weeksbut that's because I love bathing them. I currently give my 4 month old a bath every other day or so with a mild shampoo, I found johnson's baby shampoo works the best and makes them smell the best. If you are using a regular blowdrier though you will want to use the warm or cool settings so you don't cook them.
Yes, but she lives inside and gets poop on her. She is also going to be a therapy chicken so she has to be used to getting regular baths. She's really good about it and I have found giving her regular baths keeps the wax down so it doesn't shed everywhere. I bath my other two anywhere from once a week to once a month. Depends on if there is a show coming up.Holy moly that seems like a lot of bathing! Why so much? Do you show them?
