Silkie thread!

Sanna, have any more colour Acronyms? I am making a list on here for others to reference.

This is what I have so far for colours. Thanks to you for a lot of them!
That's a HUGE list you have so far!!

The only one I can think of is white crested black polish chicken, because we have one. lol But I'm not sure what the acronym is for that color. WCB? Then they have the white crested blues and buffs and who knows what else.

I know more about the silkies than any other breed.

Good mornin y'all!! Already jamming this mornin'-MAN IT IS COLD!! I am so totally itching to get my silkies...is it April yet? I do have to admitt that I am a little nervous about getting my coop/run right for them. I sure don't want to loose any of my birds. I'm just hoping that it doesn't drop in temps again in April like it did last year. But I now know that I will have the most wonderful people to ask many questions to when the time comes. I'm just soooo ready for the new adventure of the silky world!
You won't regret having silkies. They're comical...and very addictive, so beware!

Ok well that's it for the dust I guess, I am so upset that it hurt her. Thank you for your help and such a quick reply :)
I have a spray bottle I use for lice. Just cover their heads and spray the body. Has worked for me so far.

What do you put in the bottle?

My silkie eggs are adding up! Ever since the day they started laying, I've gotten one or more a day. I think I'll collect about 10ish and do a test hatch to see how fertile they are. These are big, hefty eggs (for silkies. poor little girls) so I don't think I'll have too much of a problem with small chicks like a lot of pullet hatches. The thing is, my brooding machines, my OEGB, are off for the winter, so I'll have to fire up the old incubator. I rarely use it because my little hens are usually so willing

wish me luck!
Hope you have a great hatch!!
My Splash Trio, I got from Sherley Pipper today. Thank you Hon ur the best.

When planning your coop be sure there aren't any sharp corners or edges where they can hit their heads. Silkies are very suseptible to brain injury. If something scares them, they can't see above them and flap up and wham! Great to have another addict around here!
Oh peepblessed! Wish you lived closer! They are beautiful!
Awww! Thanks!!
What do you put in the bottle?
You can use a drop of Frontline on the back of the neck, under each wing and under the vent.

What do you put in the bottle?

A bath in Adams Flea and Tick shampoo is a great first line of offense. The Adams Flea and Tick Spray for dogs (with Insect growth inhibitors) can help kill the adult bugs and prevent the eggs from growing and hatching. DE is worth a try, but I have heard that it is not very effective.

What do you put in the bottle?
I used Ultra Boss, diluted with water, just because we had one of those big jugs in the barn for our sheep, goats, etc...

I did 2/3 water, 1/3 Ultra Boss. Used it once. I even sprayed the coops. Haven't seen lice since.

Sanna, it's already there WCBP :)

I have a male as well, so I didn't forget that one :D

So many people ask me what certain things stand for. I thought it would be nice to have them all in the same place
Yeah, that's a good thing to have. I'll never remember all those letter combinations. lol

We had 45 Silkies hatch yesterday! A good mix of blue, splash, white, paint, buff and grey. Maybe a couple of partridge. They are sooooo cute!
Pictures?

I think you are spot on with your gender assessments. Definitely agree 100%. I also like Mr. Fuzzy Cheepster best. He has the best name out of the boys too :)
Thank you aoxa. Coming from you that means quite a bit to me.

I've liked Mr. Fuzzy Cheepster from the start. Funny how it works out that the favorite chick just happens to have the favorite name. A friend of mine in Nebraska named him when he saw the picture.
I will only keep one male Silkie from this bunch. I'm hoping Mr. Fuzzy Cheepster has the best type when push comes to shove in the breeding pen.
