Silkie thread!

so can I give my chickens the habanero cheddar cheese I have in my fridge? I can't eat it, too spicy.

I would say for sure. I read in another thread to mix cayenne pepper, buttermilk and corn meal for something. I think as a treat or something. I gave it to my silkies when they were babies and they chowed it down like pro's. I definitely had a ton of pepper in there and it didn' bother them one bit!

Just hatched this morning!!! Little Splash! If this does not give you hatching fever - nothing will!

Feeling sooooo bad for my two peeps outside

It's -1F outside and will be getting down to -4F tonight, won't get over 11F for the rest of the week with wind chill of up to -30F!... My little silkie hen and polish roo are freezing their tushies off! I put some vaseline on my rooster's comb, waddles and legs and gave them a heat pack. I will have to reheat it though in a couple hours. It doesn't last very long. Found a new use for hen saddles though, keeping them warm!

treat them to a warm bowl of oatmeal in the morning and they'll forgive you. or, if its just the 2 of them bring them in the house. Toss some diapers on them or let the rest in a big cardboard box

Kayla,
I would also think about bringing them in the house. Grab a cardboard box or even a plastic tub, throw some shavings in it and bring them into your bedroom. So much better to be safe than sorry.

I live in an apartment, and Toulouse is so loud it echoes through the place when he is inside. It was -1 last night and they made it, so I think they will be okay, I just feel bad. I don't worry about Nori because her feathering is SO thick I can't even get my fingers through it to feel her skin, but toulouse has to snuggle up to her. I did put some insulation so it's probably a few degrees higher in there than the outside temp, and it's a small space so it stays warmer from their body heat.

Ice is spoiled, she lives inside. I couldn't bring myself to put her outside

she is a house chicken now.

Oh, I forgot you are in an apartment. Here's another thought....tomorrow if you can purchase some bales of straw (or hay) and place them around your coop on the outside walls, it will act as a windbreak and insulator. You can keep them there till spring and then toss in your compost heap.

Yeah that would work good. I have some hay I could throw in there too when I reheat the heatpad. Think that would be good? They have deep shavings but they got packed down.
