Silkie thread!

I hatched out some silkies and I have a question about color...

One hatched out yellow, one hatched out white.  I know most white chickens hatch yellow, and it seems like this yellow chick is starting to feather out white or cream even (they're about a month old now, I know it's still pretty early.)
Whats the difference?  Why would one hatch white, and the other hatch yellow?

I believe the white chick's egg was labeled white.  I believe the others were labeled bbs.  (I do have one buff that was labeled as such on the egg.)  So is it possible for a bbs pen to hatch out a ...whatever this yellow (or the white one, if the yellow was actually the white labeled egg) chick will turn into?
I'm assuming they will both be white...  but perhaps the yellow one would be almost a cream, or light buff.(porcelain?)  Possible?

Thanks :)

Our white chicks hatch yellow and our splash hatch white. Sometimes paint hatch white too but they tend to show at least one spot at hatch!

  1. Wonder what the equivalent would be for Nikon? I'll certainly need to do a search. The incubator and eggs are already an "early B'day gift". Maybe he will forget by March, and I can ask for this for my b'day

I just rememebered that there are some sort of universal lenses that fit Nikon and Canon both. They are less expensive. Now if I could just remember the brand...

waiting 21 days takes too long. just sayin'! I have no patience! I'm thinking the key here is to have a continuous small rotation going all the time so someones always hatching out LOL

My Silkie eggs are pipping :celebrate I'll post some pics when they come out to play!

I hatched a few paints and everyone of them had their spots!

Is there more than one variety of splash? I thought the base colors were varied, like some have a light blue, some have darker blue?
And what's the difference between this white one and the other dark gray chicks? They all came from BBS pen.. Are they greys going to be blue or splash? (I say grey, they are technically "blue" I guess)

I guess time will tell for sure, but you know it's better having a clue!

We have both dark AND light Splash adults. I actually love both! The "grey" chicks are blue. The true grey silkie chicks have the chipmunk stripes on the back.

Oooh ok yeah I say grey but its like a slate grey, so blue to you guys. It took me forever to call our RI Reds RED and not brown!
I really like the light splashes-with the white background. So these blue ones I have will be blue? Or dark splashes?
I have porcelain, buff, and white from CatDance in my incubator. Day 13 I believe.
