Silkie thread!

Tamron makes lenses for Canon and Nikon that are cheaper. So does (I think) Sigma.
Yes, that was it. Sigma and Tamron. Thanks!

Oooh ok yeah I say grey but its like a slate grey, so blue to you guys. It took me forever to call our RI Reds RED and not brown!
I really like the light splashes-with the white background. So these blue ones I have will be blue? Or dark splashes?
I have porcelain, buff, and white from CatDance in my incubator. Day 13 I believe.
The blue ones (grey looking chicks) will be blue. A splash would be white.

These three different shades of grey are all blue. Then there's the random white chick on the left. lol

And this little crabby patty is a splash.

Our white chicks hatch yellow and our splash hatch white. Sometimes paint hatch white too but they tend to show at least one spot at hatch!
Self-blue (lavender) can also look white at hatch.
waiting 21 days takes too long. just sayin'! I have no patience! I'm thinking the key here is to have a continuous small rotation going all the time so someones always hatching out LOL
It will past faster than you think but try to stay busy. It helps!! :)
My Silkie eggs are pipping

I'll post some pics when they come out to play! AND My favorite hen, Tina (my avatar), decided she was going to go broody. So she's cooking four more eggs

I hatched a few paints and everyone of them had their spots!

Is there more than one variety of splash? I thought the base colors were varied, like some have a light blue, some have darker blue?
And what's the difference between this white one and the other dark gray chicks? They all came from BBS pen.. Are they greys going to be blue or splash? (I say grey, they are technically "blue" I guess)

I guess time will tell for sure, but you know it's better having a clue!
Many shades of splash but even darker ones are very light at hatch.
Yes, that was it. Sigma and Tamron. Thanks!

Well illustrated!

I know, but there is 1 egg. LOL I don't know if it'll even hatch. :( plus this is my first experience :(

OMgosh,thos chicks are SOOO cute!

I need your help Silkie Experts....my young hen has a crooked neck(wry neck?) AND a large lump where her "ear"(the pretty blue spot) is? Im giving vitamins in the water and the Poly Vitamins(babies with out iron)....any other suggestions? Thanks so much!

I think my white silkie "snow" is getting broody. I went out to close them up and she was in the spot where she lays her eggs and sleeps. But I noticed she was just kind of laying there. So I picked her up so I could check for eggs and she just stayed in the same position. I took her egg and she pretty much didn't move once I put her down. She has been acting a little different lately. Does it sound like she might be going broody??

I have a question..

We have three 4.5 month old Silkies that have no feathers on their legs. Will they ever grow foot feathers?
No. Chicks are hatched with foot feathering. The foot feathering doesn't come with age. They have no leg feathering at all? Did you get them from a hatchery? Hatchery silkies usually have pretty much nonexistant foot feathering.

I'm pretty sure its from one of the blue cream x blue eggs and it looks black? Its still wet though, so maybe its really dark blue. I'll post pics when its done resting and fluffy :love
