Silkie thread!

I guess I was just so darn excited. It was going to be my very first hatching experience and I was so looking forward to it :( sniff sniff!

Poulettes I always give my babies the yolk of a soft boiled egg when they seem weak. Knock on wood, it gives them energy and seems to help when they seem to be pale and chalky. My older ones also love cottage cheese and yogurt sprinkled with dry whole grain oatmeal, and I think the yogurt is especially good for them too. You are probably doing these things already, but thought I might mention it anyway.
I did gave her some yolk and cottage cheese, but she didn't want it, I just force her to swallow some. I also give her some BOSS, flax seed, alfalfa and some fresh mealworms. The triple antibiotic seems to help her a bit. Today, I will probably cook some warm oatmeal. Thank you.

I am new to having my own chickens, my only other experience is on Aunts and Uncles farms. My coop is half way built (doing it myself) it will house 6-10. I'm trying to decide on my starter flock, all in the docile group. Will silkies get along with other hens, do they mix well? I want good egg producers, so I need different hens in the mix than silkies.
It's pretty safe if they are raised together but a silkie with a vaulted skull can be in danger of a head injury from a strong peck on the head.

Ok, I am SOOO confused right now. I went out there to get the silkie egg from my broody to candle it, it is gone!!! she has the LF eggs I gave her, but the silkie egg is gone, no trace of it!! did she eat it or something??
Yes, some times they break and are eaten.

So disappointing but the time will go by faster than you think. :D

They get really picky when they feel crummy. :(

Sharing a few pics I took today while I was hanging out with the puff balls. Enjoy :)
