Silkie thread!

Yeh it does have quite runny poo , what do parasites look like???
you most likely wouldn't be able to see them, most are microscopic. You can try deworming it, also give it probiotics and electrolyte/vitamins after you worm it. I use wazine but it only covers a few things so you should go with a more broad spectrum dewormer. Someone else should know what to use, mainly try and treat for coccidia. Here's a link with info on it and how to treat it, I would treat your whole flock just in case. http://forum.backyardpoultry.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7975815

Hi All,
I need some advice (or personal experience) about a situation. Last month many of you guys helped me recover a little chick with wry neck. She did recover from that, but now seems to have a type of straddle leg -only worse. (She is almost 3 months old and didn't have straddle leg as a baby chick.) One of her legs goes behind her like it is perhaps dislocated at the hip. She walks around as little as necessary to eat and drink. I don't know if she is suffering with pain. And, I don't know if the legs/hip can recover.

I fear that she has some very weak genetics as new issues keep coming up.

She is a beautiful "light blue" from my own rooster and hen so maybe I've selfishly overlooked her problems. I wanted her to be in my BBS pen but realize this would be a huge mistake.

I get so attached to my chickens and need to learn that I can't help or keep every one. Someone offered to "take care of her" for me. Should I let them do it?

Honestly I would keep her as a pet if she lives, or as a "house chicken" like my own light blue, Icelynn. You could try using vetwrap and taping the legs straight like you were treating for splayed leg.

Wish I knew how to help you! I would gladly take her to live with me in our house. :( I am super attached to mine too.

It depends on quality of life. If she is struggling to live a normal life, or is in pain, I would not prolong her life any longer. It also depends on the time you have to spend on her should it be incurable. I would like to keep every bird that has a handicap as a pet, but I have neither the time nor the space to deal with them. In fact, I had 2 chicks last hatch I put down for leg issues.I also understand the attachment you get to them. When I first got chickens, I did everything I could to ensure my birds happiness and health, and couldn't dream of ever having to do the unimaginable. 11 years and hundreds of chickens later, I've sort of resigned myself to the task if it is necessary. I hate to do it, but I can't stand to see a bird not being able to live a happy normal dirt-scratching life. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide which course of action to take. Weigh out the pros and cons of each. Either way, know you'll have a community here for advice, support, or comfort :)

Aww, I didn't realize Icelyn was a house chicken. What is wrong with her? She is such a pretty girl. And, I think I will try to tape her legs straight again

You two aren't making this decision easy! I really do want to keep her, but not knowing if she is in pain is what bothers me (more than not being able to breed her).

Chicks are pretty noisy, I would think if she's in pain you would know.

What's wrong with Ice? She's spoiled that's what's wrong

She doesn't want to go outside! I am going to try again once it warms up and let her outside with Nori but she's a brat so i'm not expecting she'll be living outside for good... ever

But I enjoy her company, and she enjoys the couch
