Silkie thread!

Not silkies, but I thought I'd share how Henry our Bernese Mountain Dog is doing!

and one of our silkie crosses with the most impressive eyes I have ever seen on a chicken. They look human!

My 12 year old Newfie just passed away, would love a berner, like a newf but minus the drool! :) your cross is lovely, mine is one of the prettiest in the barnyard.

Mom was a blue silkie, dad was a naked neck - with dominant white which is why she is this colour. She has black spots in random places as well. She did not get her mother's beard, but her full brother did. :)

That is exactly why we chose the Berner over the Newf. We were initially going to go with a Newf, but the drool... lol

Mumsy - Hoping the landslides have minimal impact on you and those you love. Am keeping you in my thoughts.

Thank you. I think I was the last to know about the land slide. I had chicks arrive in the mail and my incubator was hatching out like mad. I never saw or heard the news until late afternoon. I live twelve miles south of the slide. My daughter lives near it but her house is a safe distance.

Thank you again for thinking of me. It touches my heart. Truly.

What a relief to know you and your place are okay! What a terrible tragedy for your community. Such a beautiful location.
Hi There,
I need some opinions on my new young roo. He is an 8 month old Partridge Silkie roo. I think his colors are beautiful! He has nice skin color, good spacing with his toes. I am just not sure about his comb. So, please be honest! You won't hurt my feelings

I my not so experienced opinion, I think his good points out weigh his bad. Let me know

Here is Chewie:

He is just beautiful! Obviously the comb is a problem, but it doesn't rule him out as a breeder. My understanding is that combs are one of the easiest things to correct. I would cross him with a hen who has a smooth black comb with no horns.

In the SOP it says a single comb is a disqualification. I don't know what Chewie's comb would be called or if that would DQ him. I do know that his comb is not what you'd want to see on a Silkie if you're thinking of breeding..but if everything else is great, you could probably find a nice lady for him and breed it out. Shows, I would imagine the would take points off? For a pet? He's a handsome guy!

And I know nothing about the partridge color, so I won't even comment on that. lol

Tqo of my favorite breeds large breeds... I wanted a Newf soo bad but my DH couldnt even stand thinking about the drool lol! I think it would have been worth it! Your baby is beautiful.

Jut wondering if anyone has any advice on adding new chicks to my Silkie flock? I have 2, 1 year old girls and I woud like to add a few more. I'm not sure how old the chicks should be, and what the best way is to introduce them. Thanks.
