Silkie thread!

SWOLLEN GOOPY EYES UPDATE
my chicks eyes have been staying open on with out me cleaning them for 2 days!! Still swollen but looking tons better!
Moved its siblings outside today and decided to bring it out to play (it's first time outside!)
They all had a great time and are enjoying their new coop :) you can compare the size if the chick with the eye issue to the other in the first photo, it the white one in the center.

My 2 year old loves the chicks, and was a little too helpful in feeding them!! It's so surprising how calm and submissive they are with her! And don't worry, she was very gentle with them and was supervised ;)

10 week old, I'm thinking pullet.. You agree?

Hello, I'm from Australia and I just purchased my first ever trio of silkies :) I just love their little fluffy butts... Any advice would be appreciated. Mine are all grey with different shades of grey through them. One has a light fluffy head, one a dark nearly black head and the last one has a dark but not black head.. I was hoping to get a buff & white as well but they didn't have any... I'm so excited to finally have my silkie family :)

Oh I was wondering if I could add to my flock later down the track or if silkies become aggressive to NEW flock?
Congrats on the Silkies! You'll be addicted soon. lol
Only advice I can come up with is have fun with them!

And read a lot, I've learned a ton that way.

I've never had any trouble adding new birds to my flock. They all get along great. But that's just my experience. lol I still always use caution when adding new birds. I keep them the same size. I had a bantam EE in there with the Silkies, and now I have 3 bantam Cochins. I wouldn't add anything bigger, I'd be worried about them picking on the Silkies if anything.

Thank you for the advice. I actually purchased 2 Pekings as well. I love their fluffy little butts lol. One of the Pekings seems to be the BOSS of all the others :( she chases them away from food and she grabbed a silkie on her back.. Will the peaking order just sort itself out? I'm a little worried after seeing her be soo bossy :( all are the same age.

I havent had a lot of trouble adding to my flock but once in a while you can put a couple bossy girls in together that need to work it out lol! I just pen them next to each other for a while where they can get to know each other a little and then put them out in a large run and watch. I just finished integrating a couple girls in with a another bunch where I have a very bossy hen. There are a slight scuffle between her and one of the new hens , both came away with a beak full of feathers, took but they worked it out quickly. The other new girl had no problems with the others.

Help.

Do silkies lose their beards when moulting? I have a little white bearded who has been broody for the last month or two.

This morning I noticed she has no beard anymore! She looks beardless save for some little fluff feathers there.
