Silkie thread!

Hello all. I am in the lower part of Michigan and was wondering if anyone on this thread knows of anyone within driving distance of me that has any lavender babies, pullets, or hens that they are willing to sell ? I have a lavender Roo who needs some ladies of his own. I am around the Marshall/Albion area. Close to the I 94 corridor. Thanks
Also, SQ if at all possible.

Someone asked a while back about how high my roosts were since my silkies roost with the rest of my chickens. I am sooo sorry I forgot! I was working on the coop today and took a quick measurement. Now, my coop is one of those that are elevated off the ground a bit too so they can use the area beneath it for shade, etc. These measurements are from the coop floor to the top of the 2x4. My first roost is about 17", second is 22" and the last one is about 25". I've seen my girl on all 3 at different times, but usually she's on the lowest one. I'm sure she uses the others to get to the top one when she does. Hope that helps!

Hi.

49 years ago, my mom had an aunt who insisted on doing this to her when she discovered she was pregnant. The ring went both directions! Her aunt was so confused! 7 months later, me AND my BROTHER were born!

I guess it worked that time, huh?

, now i'll be obsessing until they hatch lol

When did yours start sitting on the eggs?

I put some random Polish eggs in our Silkie coop 2 days ago, and today I found our silly little PQ, non-bearded white hen sitting on the eggs. That didn't take long! lol She glued her butt to those eggs over night.

Then, of course, she hogged the Silkie eggs that were in the coop...and my boss went and added 3 more Polish eggs. Which means she has 7 Polish eggs and probably 5 or 6 Silkie eggs.

One or two of the eggs sometimes peek out but she's doing an outstanding job covering everything. Quite impressive for such a little hen.

I'll candle in a few days and throw away the infertile one. Maker her job a little easier. This hen is the best broody I've had! Actually, I can't say "I've had" because she belongs to the farm, darn it!! Not me.

Snowball and Twerpy playing in the kitchen. They move to the grow out pen tomorrow and will have so much room to run and jump and play. But until then they play in kitchen. And I follow them around with Clorox wipes. Lol
