Silkie thread!

Our azaleas are in full bloom, so I had to pose one of my girls against them

Beautiful picture

Hey guys this is one of my four week old silkies it started of striped and is not mostly all blueish someone told me It would be a blue partridge but to me it looks blue is is how they are suppose to look at this age? And I think it may also have a naked neck gene?... Any help would be appreciated

It's a show girl.
Definitely NOT a show girl. This chick has feathers all over it's neck if you look closely. I see no naked spots? The feathers are just very short because they're new and just growing in. Give it some time, it'll look like a Silkie eventually. Some just mature slower than others.

Looking good!

So it could either be that they're not squatting for them or the roosters are too many?

The hen will squat for me but very rarely. I've never seen her squat for them either. I've seen the roos get close to the girls and look like it is trying to step on with one foot, but that is as far as it goes. something isn't right.

I know I don't have enough females. I'm down to 2. and I have 2 roos. Is this more of the problem you think, dynamics?

I would hazard a guess and say rooster because it looks like at least in the picture that it has little wattles starting to grow and it looks like it has a comb.

Love your photos!
Wow your silkies are really gorgeous, its a shame I am so so far, since I found BYC been reading Silkie threat and I am always amazed on how beatiful silkies you all have there. Got my first chicks 7 months ago, which was not easy at all here in Costa Rica, but I have to admit that though we love them, they are not even half as gorgeous as yours.
I keep the faith someday gonna have at least one of those beauties, so thats why im writing here to see what you think:

A friend of mine lives in San Diego, and she travels to Costa Rica once a year, dont know exactly when this year she will, but do you think that if she can get some SQ flock eggs and bring them to my country there will be still a chance they hatch?
It would totally depend on how they are packaged and handled.
hey guys can i have an educated guess on what gender my silkie is? 8 weeks old as of last saturday...

Probably a boy.

OK, so.... since it seems that the last couple of days all the 2 roosters do is fight each other, I should get rid of one. I have a black and a splash. the black is the more dominant one I think, although the splash has been winning the fights lately LOL. but the black is the one who crows all the time. the black one has a slight crooked beak which is barely noticeable. it may not breed through. The girls are a splash and a blue. So, I should keep the black for genetics, right? he has silver leakage. I"ll just be breeding for friends/family/ and for pet quality birds. the silkies are of decent quality though, not top of the line, but decent quality. I know they won't have perfection like perfect toes or perfect wings etc, but they are fluffy and look nice. they're pretty decent.

So, I guess the question is, can I put the other rooster in with my LF group? will it work, or are they too passive to hold their own? I used to have my silkie hen in there, but I wonder how it would work just putting in one rooster into the group of 12. I've done it before with another bird and they didn't pick on her, but I didn't know how it works with a rooster. Will he mate with them? will they submit to him or would they think of him as a threat? I don't have any roosters in that group.

It would totally depend on how they are packaged and handled.
Thanks peep, that is: if my friend handles the eggs carefully when bringing them, lets say in her bag, there would be no reason for them to get spoiled by the long trip? this makes me feel really hopeful. Im going to keep an eye on her to be prepared for the day she travels, by the way would you be willing to send her a dozen eggs when the moment comes if I told you on time?

Finally got my birds 7 of them and they are gorgeous of the seven I got the two silkies I wanted one black one white and I also got one frizzle that is partridge about a week old post pictures soon I am so excited about raising these birds with my girls!

I finally have a few silkies!
I ordered some eggs from catdance, and now I have three little silkies that are a month old.
Two black, and one porcelain!
They are starting to fluff up a bit now, just waiting on some on the heads.
How long generally until they can be sexed?
Thanks,
Jim
