awwww... sounds like somebody needs a good boot to the head! just had to do that the other day... wait u shouldnt do that to a silkie they have soft heads lol

My hubby built the coop mostly from pallets we got for free and the enclosure around it we built next to the storage shed. He will be finishing up putting up the chicken wire this weekend, then he will start building the chicken run off to the side.
We have 6 red sex link pullets and 8 silkies that just arrived last week.
Super! I like it! We did this with our stanndard coop just built off of our potting shed. I like the door, looks just like what we do to make our gates.

Looks awesome! I would use 1" hardware cloth instead of chicken wire, just read where a hawk got a chick thru the chicken wire.

heh I knew someone would say that. We thought about it, I guess we decided it would be a ton of harware cloth and it would be pretty spendy. I think we will eventually at least at the bottom of the pen. We just happen to have the chicken wire available right now. I was also thinking it might make sense to put a short fence along the bottom so they don't attract predators. The thing is, since they are under cover it dosen't get much sun under there and if I put a small fence up no sun will get under there at all

I figure with our dogs, the thick forrest and a roof and being under the deck and our large ammount of crows in the trees and the pen being like right next to the house, they are pretty well protected.
Here's the coop my husband built, I love it. Wish I could get him to build me another one

but getting this one was like pulling teeth.

I have a Sizzle roo who went through a stage like that. I tried a lot of things but what ended up working was just picking him up and carrying him around every time he acted aggressive. Now he's a very sweet guy ;)

Well, he's been mean to my other silkie roo, to the point of starvation here. And my hen has been hiding from him in the coop and barely comes out to the run all day. Any time he goes near her she runs away screaming... UGH! So, I just put him in with the LF chickens. So far they aren't pikcing on him too much... but hopefully it will work out. Hopefully he'll get along with them and they'll accept his advances since nobody else will! My pullet doesn't even like him. he's been successful a few times with her, but she won't squat for him, so it hard for him to mate with her.

I hope that the other rooster will bounce back here and they'll like him better or soemthing. Not sure why nobody likes poor george! he's a handsome fellow, I'm assuming he;'s just going about it all wrong LOL

Does anyone know if you can boil/cook the "clear" eggs from an incubator? They didn't develop. I thought about giving them to the chickens instead of letting them go to waste but wasn't sure they'd be safe? I have 17 eggs#!
I boil mine and feed them back to the chickens. I don't usually wait that long. You might want to crack one and use the smell test first. I have done this for over a year without problem.

Same here. I candle on Day 5 or Day 6 and pull clear eggs. They are completely edible, but I hardboil and feed them (shell and all) to the breeders.
