Ok... need an opinion on the color of these Silkies. I purchased what I was told were Buff Silkie eggs, to me these look like Ginger Reds...

Thoughts?? I want to sell them because they IMO are not what a Buff Silkie should be genetically color wise. So I just want to be sure I am referring to them as the proper color when I place them.

The top one looks kind of close to red and the others look buff to me. Of course the goal is an even golden buff shade (like the hackles on the bottom photo) without any black (smut). Very difficult to achieve. These are obviously partridge based buffs. Many breeders use a combination of Wheaton base and Partridge base for best results. Hopefully someone will respond who actually breeds buffs. I found this in my notes from a breeder:
The wheaten based birds tend to have less
black in wings/tails and less smut. But they tend to have lighter skin, combs
and even eyes. The partridge/brown based birds tend to be a darker buff, have
darker skin, combs and eyes, but are more likely to have smutty undercolour and
black in the wings and tail.

Sleepy time

Great photo! They look like they are in a tent!

Okay all you seasoned silkie moms and dads,

My 5 silkie chicks are 5 months old now. Lucky me, so far 3 are confirmed cockerels. My fingers are crossed that the other two are pullets.
Two of the boys hang out together - Bubbles and Elvis. Alice (Cooper) is odd man out and yesterday, the other two were picking on him. It didn't last long and no one was injured but it made me realize that I need to be looking for a new home for him.

Okay, here's my question. This morning, Bubbles and Elvis started going at it. A couple of feathers were pulled but otherwise, no harm done. The spat went on for quite a while even though I tried to break it up so I recorded a quick video. I know they need to establish their pecking order. Is this dance a normal process that they will work through or is this a taste of more serious fights to come? I don't want to see anyone get hurt. This afternoon they are all piled up together napping.

Thank you for your words of wisdom!

I got my new little ones!

They seem like they are in good health -- a little sleepy, but active, eating/drinking, pecking around etc. They're pretty unbalanced and wobbly, which I'm assuming is typical for day old chicks that have been crammed and shipped in a box right after they hatched? LOL.

I'll work on getting some better pics of them over the next few days! Is it possible to tell when they are this little if any of them are splash? I seem to have gotten quite the black/gray rainbow here!

I took a bunch of pictures of the chicks I picked up at a swap a few weeks ago. I was hoping you guys could help me with color on some. Pretty please :)
A partridge I really like. Is it a regular partridge or blue partridge?

The splash I hatched from my own eggs. Pretty sure this ones a pullet, but its dad was a very girly rooster so I could be wrong.

The next 2 pictures are the same chick (and my cuckoo Polish, which I fear is a boy), is it grey? Its a little bit lighter than the pics show.

Color guesses? There's some brown and parti marking in the wing feathers, but the rest is an even grey/blue.

Cute little blue chick coming out of a very awkward naked middle toe phase.

I really like this guy alot (pretty sure its a boy, check out his comb if you can see it-hes really dark!), but I don't know what to do with all that leakage? He's about 11 weeks old now.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! I have no idea what I'm going to do with these chicks. I saw them, and couldn't help myself
