Silkie thread!

I feel your pain. I had 9 from catdance and 8 from Geri Godina in mine at lockdown. Only 1 hatched. 16 fully developed chicks that didn't hatch. My only guess is too much humidity. It was 62-67%.
Hi, I got 18 hatching eggs from Catdance Silkies.  It's day 22 and only four have hatched and that was yesterday. No hatches in more than 12 hours.

There are 11 eggs still in the incubator that looked viable at 15 days. I'll give them a couple more days just in case.  I opened it long enough to take the ones that have hatched out (I also had other standard eggs and quite a few of them hatched yesterday morning).  I don't hear any noise from the eggs that are in there.  Not sure what I did wrong.  :(

Do you ever / often have late hatchers with the silkies? What do you run humidity at during the first 18 days and during the last 3 days? If you hatch silkies and other chicken breeds, do you do anything with different with the silkies?

I have a genesis 1588.  Temp was stable at 100 +/-  0.5.  I used the 'dry hatch' method.  Humidity stayed between 25% - 45% during the first 18 days (mostly right about 30%).  I raised it to 65% - 70% the last three days.  Any advice for next time?

Thanks,
Shanna

The question I have is, I read all over the place on BYC about which thermometer and hydrometer is correct, and everyone seems to have differing opinions. Some say, use accurite it is awesome and we have awesome hatch with it. then some swear that it is completely inaccurate etc and nothing will hatch bc the temp is wrong. I've read this with sooo many different types. I did a search and there is just too much info and differing opinions! I've been usign my friend's Brinsea mini advance so I don't need a thermometer... but, I planned on building a larger incubator so I'll need a thermometer
You can test some types of thermometers. Also, a human thermometer is very accurate for testing. http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/thermotest.html Hygrometer test: http://www.burgessviolins.com/calibration.html
I think broodies are easier. They know what they're doing. You just let them do their job.

Then again, I've only hatched in an incubator once, but I still feel that Mother Nature does her job much better. lol

Is that a porcelain in there?

They're all so cute.
Yes, porcelain. :D

This is one of my new silkies. This is Jill. Isn't she a doll. Just had to brag. LOL
Lovely lady. :D
Hi everyone!! I'm new to Silkie. Became a silkie owner a couple of hours ago. My orps hatched out some silkie eggs.

I think I have 2 blues and 1 splash. Is it correct?

You are correct if these are from BBS parents.
Anyone have lavender and porcelain chicks from show stock. My lonely porcelain chick needs some quality buddies
Where are you located?
What color is she? I was thinking blue partridge but then I looked at the wing feathers and the colors look like some weird splash.

This looks like a normal partridge chick.

I'm sorry, but this chick doesn't look porecelain. Does the photo reflect it's accurate color?

[/quot If this is a regular partridge, what color is this chick? It is from a mixed color flock with a blue Colombian and partridge roos. My girls are blue, black, buff partridge and Colombian. Is this a blue partridge or a wait and see color.
