Silkie thread!

Last pic. I think these are partridge
I am planning on keeping only 1 rooster, so are there any colors that shouldn't be bred together.
I can't tell what colors these chicks are. I don't know if they're buff with spots on their heads. And I'm wondering about the one on the right, which has a darker color on it's back? Maybe someone will know.
Breeding for colors, the only colors you can breed together are blue, black and splash. The rest, to my knowledge, you should just stick with white to white, black to black, partridge to partridge etc...

My new silkie babies arrived at the end of last week from ideal . I ordered a silky assortment so not sure on a couple colors. white chicks
blue? Chick
black chicks
I'm pretty sure your blue is a blue. The black ones could be black or just really dark blue. Difficult to say with the color and quality of pictures.

I hope you have fun with your silkies!

this is lacy I will be showing her in November. Do you think she has a chance to do well? This will be my first show and I'm very nervous. What's your opinion?

Raising 6 kids is rough on a woman
gig.gif
Her crest and beard were trimmed, she plucked her belly feathers, her tail has lost a lot of fluff, her foot feathers are mostly broken, and her face is nearly always dirty now. She's back to laying again, I put 4 of her eggs underneath the perpetually broody duo (seriously. They've raised 2 broods so far this year, and want a third) in the pile house.

after

2 of her chicks (she didn't raise these, she raised 6 mixed LF chicks) by blood. 3 1/2 months. They always stick together.

Update on my neighbor's raccoon...
So, yesterday I didn't let the my remaining 3 5-6 month olds out until mid-morning with the plans of putting them back in the coop mid-afternoon. Should be way outside hunting times for coons. WRONG!!
barnie.gif
At 1:00 straight up, I hear a ruckus, look out the window to see the rotten little varmint running off with my white cockerel. R U KIDDING ME?!?

I race out the front door to chase him but wasn't fast enough. By the time I got outside I was only able to see him going over the fence into "his" backyard with my baby. Now Alice is gone too.

I was sooooo upset!! My girlfriend and DH did their best to console me.

Last evening we decided to live trap the coon on our own and take him out into the country and release him on the QT. I planned to lok today for a trap I can barrow. Low and behold, 12:15 this afternoon and I hear the chicken alarms go off. (The 2 remaining birds are on lockdown with the 6-week olds now.) I run out back and there he is...back for thirds. REALLY!?! It's broad daylight for Pete's sake.

I chased him off and went straight to my feed store to get a trap.

Now I'm ready for the little so and so.
If it is out in broad daylight I would be careful around it. It may have some sort of a disease. We had a fox come out during the day and kill some of our chickens and it looked like it had mange.

I think she looks nice, but without seeing feet, and close up on the face and comb, can't say for sure how she would do in a show.

Anyone know? :)
I would "guess" girl.
I've got some hatching also!!!

Born yesterday outside in the coop.

Born this morning in the incubator (sorry they are still goopy). This is a staggered hatch in the incubator which I have been worried about, but knock on wood, so far, so good!

My chicks finally arrived! Here is a pic of my favorite

Very cute!
So what happens when you breed a white silkie with a black silke.
You will get a variety of colors but most of them will not be to standard.
Well, my three silkies are 3 months old today. How old are they before the roosters stick out obviously? None of these have any sign of comb or waddles. That is if you can get the fluff out of the way enough to even see their faces. I am beginning to think I ended up with three hens. No crowing yet either.

I am usually sure by 4 months and sometimes know as early as 5 - 6 weeks.
one of my two eggs CHIRPED!! omg I have tears in my eyes! lol Its chirping!! ok now what do I do, day 20 does he/she need help i'm freaking out now.
Eggs are supposed to hatch on day 21 but may hatch a day early or a day or two late. It's common to hear peeping the day before hatching.
Hi everyone i just wanted to share a picture of my new babies . I love everyone of them.
Very cute pile!
Got some pics of one of my porcelain girls here - Meet "Her Majesty". I just love this girl, she is not even a year old yet and just to die for. Also got some new pics of our paint girl Duchess and our blue partridge chick being super cute and sun bathing in the yard. Her Majesty got her name from her Holier than Thou demeanor. She is super sweet and friendly but it should be viewed as a privilege to even be in her presence. Duchess of course was named due to the fact she is very social and sweet but very high and mighty the way she carries herself. Our blue partridge chick I am still not quite sure what gender is on them, but either way I am sure we will find a suitable name for them as well. The baby is such a sweet heart, curled up on my lap and took a mini cat nap in the yard yesterday. We are due for a small hatch from the BBS pen. Looking forward to playing and loving on some new babies... :)

Very beautiful birds!!
I bought a hygrometer and themometer today but their meant for reptiles will it be okay to use them for incubating chicks
They will work fine but should be tested for accuracy.

The left chick looks buff. The right one looks light partridge. I agree with Sanna on breeding the colors.
I have heard you cannot keep incubators in rooms with odours is this true and can an incubator not be exposed to sunlight or all light thanks
I've never heard the odor thing. I wouldn't think strong chemical smells would be good. It shouldn't be in direct sunlight or in a real drafty area.

Hope I can be there to see her show. She looks great, but I'm prejudice! She's got a great beard for a lady.
