Silkie thread!

MMMkay. So I have a broody silkie in a rebbit hutch sitting 3 eggs (at last check) and 4 silkie eggs in my 'bator! My silkie ended up in the rabbit hutch because the 4mo old pullets (commets and EE's) wouldn't lever her alone! The ones in the 'bator are due the 21'st and the ones under Sally are due a week or so later! Soooo excited! Quick question, Sally (my silkie hen) usually only lays every other to every 3rd day, but has now laid 4 days in a row. Is that normal, or is she laying more because she is broody?

I know! This chick is from peepblessed's eggs. I have two blue chicks also and one of them has even more feathers on it's feet. I'm so excited to see what they'll grow into. I just hope they're not all boys. lol

If they are all boys, you can send one my way
I've gotten mostly pullets (which most would not complain about) but I need a nice rooster, dang it :/

Who's knows what goes on inside their tiny little heads. Could be bc she's broody. Or maybe she finds the weather especially agreeable lately, or found an extra tasty bug, or took a really relaxing dirt bath, or....

I am sorry, I live in California - so no.  However, maybe somebody else will come on from your area.  Have you checked Craig's List?
Is it a still air or a forced air?  In the still air incubators the temperatures at the top will be higher than the temperatures at the bottom.   If your incubator says the temperatures are supposed to be 100F I would calibrate the thermometer that is reading 90F - that is a big difference!  I finally got a Brisea Spot Check because it is highly accurate (and I can always test it by sticking the probe in my mouth ) and it has really helped me.  I know overseas shipping might be expensive, but maybe somebody there already imports them?

Yes I have compared that themometer with others and it has been the same to them . Could it be the themometer that came with the incubator and the incubators default ?

Oooooh! I just set up a swap with a lady and am getting a breeding pair of black silkies! I currently have a black roo and white hen. Now I will have 2 pairs! How awesome?

I didn't think she would start laying at 5 mo.... But with chickens I'm not going to rule anything out

I have had 3 silkie girls lay at 5 mos.

Sanna checken obsessed, If some of them are males, you don't have to worry about them being mean or aggressive, Silkie roosters are the nicest breed of male chicken you can get! They are the sweetest thing

The boy in my avatar is the father of Sanna's chick. He's a real sweetie unless you mess with his girls. He flogged my legs yesterday and grabbed my shoe lace and tried to drag me away! Fortunately I was wearing jeans.

At what age can you sex Silkies?

Some you can tell at 6 weeks and some take 6 mos or more.

Mine never lay more than 1 egg after they go broody.

I have a girl that lays 6 days a week and she has never been broody.
