Silkie thread!

One last thing I promise what why do some silkies have that big blob looking thing on top of its head. Sorry for the silly description that's the best way I can describe it. I noticed the lady I am going to be buying it from had a couple of them with some weird scrunched skin on top of its head. What is this?
Do you mean the comb?

Can anyon tell me what those might be color wise?

Tomorrow I will be taking one of these sweeties home

Top one looks splash or white and the bottom two look blue and splash or white.
Here are my teenagers out playing in the "Wilds" of the side yard. They still go into the cat carrier to sleep and I lock them up - but during the day they are in the fenced side yard.

In case you can't read the names, that is Dezi, Sue2 (Sumatra), Night (black), Ice, Crook (crooked beak), Dawn and Peggy

And here are the older "Broody Bunch"

Broody Mommy, two Silkie chicks and Daddy. I don't think either one is from Broody Mommy, but her three are in the other batch above.

This one has me confused. The tail and body look sort of silkied- but the wings and back look smooth feathered? Mother was probably the Blue Sizzle.

I suspect this is another of her chicks - it looks like its feathers are curling backwards but it is so hard to tell because they are Silkied!

And here are the newest ones:

Minnie is sitting on one more light one, just born today. The others were born yesterday and the day before. They love their soppy wet fermented feed.
Great pictures! Lovely birds.

The one you called paint is not paint. It is likely a grey (silver partridge). Chocolate is very rare to see in a silkie. You'll have to wait until it matures. It looks like a dark partridge.
Maybe super glue.

I've got a chicken that has broken his nail and I can't get it to stop. Any suggestions,

I had to sprinkle baking soda on it- quick clot, then I wrap the toe up and separate for a day.

Hi everyone. I have just started my flock of silkies this Spring. I am already so amazed at these little guys! I do have one that the color has everyone stumped. Each time I post a picture I get a different answer. It came from a mixed pen, Roo is white, hens are Partridge, white, black, grey, and a silver laced.
I know my little one shows partridge, but wondering if it is also showing silver laced?

You can see some striping showing in its upper wing.

Very cute! Congratulations on joining the Silkie group - I love my Silkies!

The Chipmunk pattern on that chick says Partridge to me. That "lacing" you are seeing looks to me like the partridge pattern gene. All my Partridge chicks have it. Silver Laced is a black feather with a white border (look at Silver Laced Wyandottes) - I have never seen a Silkie that has that. I don't think the lacing shows up well enough on the silkied feathers to call it "Laced".

Your chick looks light enough it could be a Silver Partridge.

Here is my new silkie! Here are some better pictures of her color. What do y'all think she will be. I also got the one with the Fuzziest feet :D I feel like the camera made her a bit darker than she really is but anyways! What is your guess

Sorry my bad, the hen is a sizzle, not a silkie. OOPS

Pretty huh? Since I am new, I expect to make a couple more mistakes...lol

The suggestions already posted are great. I was going to add, not sure it is relevant in your particular case or not, but if you were to cut a nail too close to the quick and it bleeds, some sue a dry bar of soap. Just scratch the nail against the bar. The soap sticks to the end where it is bleeding, and keeps it clean. Especially if you use Dial.
First check for mites/lice; if none, I would treat for coccidiosis.
Thank you. I started a 5 day treatment with Corid. Everyone is acting normal today. I had a medical procedure done today though so I haven't checked the poo yet. Thanks for the response though.

Ah, that is pretty. However it is not Silver Laced - it's Silver Penciled.

I think with silkied feathers it would be called Silver Partridge because the penciling will fuzz out unless the chick gets smooth feathers like its momma. It does look like it is getting the Penciling on the wings.

Do you know what the cross is to get that coloring? Its really pretty.

I have a Sizzle x Silkie that looks as if it might have smooth feathers - and the proper Partridge markings. Will be interesting to see how close the Partridge Silkies actually look to Partridge patterning on other birds.

Here SHE is with a Partridge Wyandotte Bantam chick about the same age:

You can see the pattern on both birds.
