Silkie thread!

My babies are getting big!!

*sniff sniff* Today they moved outside to the Silkie Colony with the adult birds. This was their second day outside with the other birds. No one said "boo" so I felt it was safe to leave the babies outside. Just in case someone changes their mind on their good behavior, the are sleeping in their cage which I placed inside of the coop. This way I can sleep peacefully....I think.

Does anyone else get dramatic about these things?? lol

There they are! All huddled together out in the big world. No more supervised backyard play time. lol
That self-blue looks like a fuzzy ball with eyes and feet. I still stress when they first go out. :D
Thinking Snow's neck is getting crooked again =/ I will check on him again tomorrow to see if it is getting even worse. He had bad wryneck as a baby and it may be coming back. He seems to tilt his head to the right slightly, and I watched him crow today and instead of holding his head up straight to do it he held it sideways and crowed out to the side

His crow also sounds like someone is strangling him still. I can post a picture, I think I have one. It isn't always like that, but a good amount of the time, he always seems to be calking his head to that side... could it just be a permanent head tilt I am just noticing because I am overprotective and some of the others are sick too?

doing it

not doing it

oh and also, Ice is getting red in her waddles? Also her comb is getting a little larger. Is this just her maturing?

I'm sure he will be fine.

My girls often get red in the wattles and a little larger comb at maturity.
Finally got a silkie! I'm worried she will feel left out since I only have one. Is this going to be ok? I don't have room for any more birds right now or I would get just one more

my others are Cochins and a BO. All very docile. Any input?
Thanks
Kristi
She should be fine.
I have three chicks that just hatched out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited. I had shipped eggs and I was so worried none would hatch. I started with 8, there are 2 more in there, they haven't pipped yet, but I'm goign to give them some time still.

These come from Riverside Silkies, and they are B/B/S. How do you differentiate from blue and splash chicks?

Very cute! Splash are usually white or very pale blue, but very pale blue can also turn blue.

I'm glad I'm not the only crazy one that worries so much. lol I went and checked on the chicks last night around 11pm just to make sure they were doing ok.
gig.gif
And of course they were sound asleep in their cage. lol Today, when I opened their little cage door, they marched right outside of the coop, out in the run like nothing and started bouncing around.

I think they're pretty happy out there. I feel sad because I won't have them in the house to play with anymore.
lol.png
But I know it's so much better for them to live out there and be chickens. Good thing I have more eggs in the incubator and I started collecting my own Silkie eggs yesterday.

I think I'm babbling again.

Cute little chicks.

The colors in the pictures are quite off, but definitely one blue (the dark one). The darker greyish looking one on the right could be a light blue, not sure. Lightest one on left is probably a splash.

Hi! I've already asked this in the lavender silkie thread, but go no response! I have a three week old silkie bantam named smudge who was sold to me as a self blue. However smudge is looking pretty white up against my other three self blue chicks (bought from the same place at the same time). I'm not picky about colouring and wouldn't actually mind if smudge is a white, however I'd like to know what my birds colouring is.

Any opinions on if smudge is a white or a self blue? Thanks for any feed back!

the colors are actually not off, it really is green irl. it is weird. I posted that photo bc the colors were right on.

The middle picture there shows the colors best. One looks green, it is very strange with the green hue!

I have a baby that had a greenish hue too! I call her my little green head. I think she is going to be gray. I have pictures of her posted in the Silkies of a Different Color thread. I love her bunches and she is my favorite baby right now.

She is in the back here so a little out of focus but you can see the greenish hue

And here she is in between a lighter and a dark blue
