But wouldn't that be the name sizzle then?[/quote] There is a Sizzle thread. There is a description of what Sizzle is on the first page.
It says: "Sizzles have all the characteristics of Silkie chickens, except the feathers are not silkie feathers (So black skin, 5 toes, crest, etc). They come in smooth and frizzled. When you breed for Sizzles you will likely also get some silkies and frizzled silkies (just like it sounds-silky feathers that are frizzled)."

Hi! I might be getting a silkie or 2 to add to my flock tomorrow! I already have black australorps, buff orpingtons, silver laced Cochins, OE silver duckwing bantams, amerucanas, golden comets, white leghorns, a brown leghorn, 3 old red hens and so on! No more than 2 of each breed though! I am very excited about adding a silkie to my flock! You guys all have beautiful birds!! I would like to have some info on silkies too. Are they different than my other breeds by needing more/less care? Can they live with my other hens? (I don't have a roo in the coop because I have a hen with a broken leg that he would injure) any special care requirements? Also how good is their egg production?

Have you tried Walmart for Polyvisol (no iron) drops. It's usually near baby products or ask at pharmacy. Even some grocery stores carry it but want a lot more $$$

Baby aspirin isn't any where near the same as prednisone - the later is a steroid and should be used on vet's advice only.

Also use some vit.E capsules - squeeze out a couple drops.
Yes, aspirin is not a steroid, but it IS an anti-inflammatory. My chicken vet prescribes metacam rather than prednisone. It is also an NSAID.

Robo- not sure how old he is...less than a year. He has a better wing tuck. He has them low and panting- It's hot down here in GA!
Didn't go with bender huh? LOL

Here is snow today after a bath

Well I ended up getting 3 I will post pictures.
This is the one I'm guessing is white. It doesn't have very good feet feathers at all.. And it's beak is tanish

I'm guessing this one is gray and has better feet feathering
A frizzled blue silkie.
I'm actually upset that most of the chicks she has had tan beaks and flaired out wings and she said that was normal but there were only a few that didnt have flaired out wings. I am very confused. Especially when there was a frizzle in the grown up pin with the other silkies...
Really, the beak colour is fine.

Quote: I honestly think this is more a case of Brie not knowing what to look for and having too much explained. She needs to ask how the breeding pens are set up, and know that in general, you always pair the same colours together. There are some exceptions (BBS & projects), but not for what she wants. She needs to make it clear that she wants pure silkies, not sizzles. If the breeder was talking about the sizzles, then yes, some will curl and some won't. Non frizzled feathers do not curl. Frizzled silkie feathers are okay and if all other silkie features are there, can be shown (frizzle is recognised for ALL breeds), but if she does not want frizzled silkies, then she should make sure that the birds she gets did not come from a frizzle or sizzle breeding.

Those who are seriously working on sizzles prefer it to be a separate breed (or at least they did a few years ago--I haven't kept current). Sizzles do not have silkie feathering, but do have all other traits of silkies.
