Silkie thread!

Hi
Hi all. I just love to see everyone's pics and read all the great info here. I have a question. I just got 4 silkies. 2 roos, 1 hen and 1 chick. Are they naturally more calm and less active? I have other large chickens and they seem to be much more active. Thank you for any info.
Kahfia,
Don't know about others but mine are a lot quieter than my regular chickens and have much "nicer" attitudes towards humans and themselves. Very gentle lil souls. Even my roosters have all been very protective of their girls but never retaliate when a non-silkie roo tries to fight them. They just take their girls and walk away from the drama.

Thanks DebraM. I have had them a couple weeks and enjoy them so much, but wanted to make sure they were acting normal. They have their own pen & coop inside the larger pen & I have hopes of one day combining my flocks.

After my husband called me to say that 19 of my chickens (various breeds and nearly all of them 4 months old or younger) had been stolen, I immediately set out on my quest to find a newt Silkie roo (I was out of town). After some help from my daughter in another state, I got the phone # of the lady who had sold me my last one. I had a choice between a painted and this Calico. I don't show and I loved his color (yes I have been told it is not a ecognized color...but for my purposes, he is wonderful!) S000....here is a pic of my new guy:
I can't believe someone would STEAL all of your chickens, that's just despicable :( And that's why I'm super wary about people coming to my house to buy birds! Your new guy is very handsome though!

So sorry about the theft! Just awful!! Your boy is gorgeous. He doesn't look like the calicos I normally see. He's very close to salmon. Some breeders are working on the color. Here's a photo of a salmon faverolle. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...LQUWi4h8lsxlM:;3Dmg3zy_psnnkM;-LQUWi4h8lsxlM:
My children and their children came to visit over the weekend. My Grandsons loved feeding a little scratch to the flock. My Catdance Silkies free range with my layers and heritage Rhode Island Red group. Everybody gets along.

The Blue, Buff, and Partridge Catdance kids followed the three year old every where he went. So cute.
Lovely setting.
So im new to the silkie breed and i was wondering how long it takes silkies to grow into their tiny little bodies? Does it take longer or shorter than the average 6 months?

8 - 12 mos.

My silkies are calmer birds than some. They are also not "flighty" because.. well.. with those feathers you don't fly far.... They still do fly/hop.

He is not a Silkie. He is either a Silkie cross or a Sizzle. Silkies have split feathers that look like hair, not regular feathers. He is a pretty boy though. No clue how hold... er.. old...

I know this is probably a long shot, but I am looking for a SQ or BQ white silkie rooster or cockerel. I am in north NJ and willing to drive up to 2 hours. Anyone have one they're selling??
