Welcome

Mine is from a hatchery so I was wondering if she still will be fluffy. She is 3 months
She will have silkie feathers, but she will probably not be as fluffy as the breeder bought birds.
Some of my silkies are getting bumps at the base of their beaks. Does this mean they are roos, or can hens have the bumps too? That's what a comb is, isn't it?

I need to get pics, but we have company from out of town so it might be a bit before I can.
Possibly combs? I'm not quite sure what you mean by at the base of their beaks... Males have a bumpier and larger comb than females though if that is what you are talking about. Here are some pictures

female comb

Okay, so they could still be girls then. They like 2 and a half months so still a bit young to tell.

Comb is what it is. I'll go try to grab pics.

ETA: I'll have to wait until the sun goes to the other side of the house, they're all huddled in the shade eating melon.

Do silkies sometimes take a longer time to grow? I have one, Pinto, who is about nine or ten weeks old and still so tiny the little six-week-olds are catching up to him/her. (S)he's an active, healthy little booger who thinks (s)he's one of the big chicks, just not as big as Professor Fluffles was around the same age. The Professor is thirteen weeks old and Pinto is half her size. Pinto sure uses it as an advantage, though. That chick can slip under the bigger regular-sized juveniles and snatch away the treats. :)

Looked nothing like a towel!

Maybe some day I'll own a light box. For right now, I have a reflector. I should probably start using it more often. lol

That's a great idea!

A light box is so easy to make. Can make one out of a cardboard box and tissue paper is seconds! I could show you. No need to buy one!
Two newest additions. I thought normal silkie chicks were tiny, but the little guy on the left (silkie x oegb) is just soooo small and cute

He has five toes on one foot and four on the other, a beard, walnut comb, and some leg feathering. I have 4 hens with chicks in the silkie pen right now, and the other broody hens know he is different from a normal silkie chick. They make an 'alarm' sound whenever he walks by with the mother who hatched him. But she protects him and loves him just as much as her pure silkie chick.

This is the only picture I could find which compares his mother's size to the silkies. She is outside the fence to the left of the silkies, she sort of blends in. She's a tiny girl.
That is adorable!
After my husband called me to say that 19 of my chickens (various breeds and nearly all of them 4 months old or younger) had been stolen, I immediately set out on my quest to find a newt Silkie roo (I was out of town). After some help from my daughter in another state, I got the phone # of the lady who had sold me my last one.
I had a choice between a painted and this Calico. I don't show and I loved his color (yes I have been told it is not a ecognized color...but for my purposes, he is wonderful!)
S000....here is a pic of my new guy:

I CANNOT BELIEVE SOMEONE STOLE YOUR BIRDS! So despicable! On the other note, you got an awesome new guy! Im loving his color!
My children and their children came to visit over the weekend. My Grandsons loved feeding a little scratch to the flock. My Catdance Silkies free range with my layers and heritage Rhode Island Red group. Everybody gets along.

The Blue, Buff, and Partridge Catdance kids followed the three year old every where he went. So cute.
Wow! What a beautiful setup!
Love the new rooster! Perty!

Someone attempted to steal my chickens last year. Our dogs raised a ruckus and my husband caught them in the act. They were some teenagers. They ran off and left behind a suitcase on wheels. We opened it up and low and behold, my fearless rooster piled on top of the hens, scared to death! After that he didn't crow for 3 days. His manhood had been defamed

This is the roo:
I now padlock the coop every night

Sorry to hear they got away with your birds.
What is wrong with people?! I love this guy, good thing you caught the looser in the act. Would hate to have this one get taken!
