Silkie thread!

He is very pretty, but I don't think he is Lavender.  Lavender is supposed to be all over the same even light gray color.  He has dark hackles - maybe red? on the wings and a white chest. That sort of looks like Silver Partridge to me?

I don't have Lavender in Silkies, but I do have it in Ameraucanas.  They are a very even color - all over.

If he came out of a Lavender breeding pen, maybe he is "split" for lavender and only carries one gene.  He wouldn't show the color with only one - you need two to have Lavender.  Lavenders can be bred to Black to produce splits which can then be bred together to get Lavenders.

Oh, and the color that was accepted in Silkies is not called Lavender - its called "Self Blue" even though the gene that makes it is called Lavender.. Just FYI.

Well shoot. Now I don't know what to put him with or just keep him as is. But I think he is very pretty. And he has a great temperament. Any ideas? I'm afraid his offspring won't be worth anything

i mean black hen not white hen .. its the white recessive gene im pretty sure that the black hen has .. it was raining today so the silkies don't look as great

the SP rooster couldn't get him to look at me lol but hope this helps a bit

this is the black hen she just looked up when i took the pic but idk if this will help and her rooster keeps pulling her tail feathers out to

the BB PB rooster he doesn't like peoples feet he will attack them so i couldn't get a good pic of him he kept doing his rooster dance thing so this is the best pic i could get

she was trimmed down from a breeder i know but they said she looks really nice when she is fully feathered

this chick is the BB PB baby so he can make nice babies

she got water on her head so her crest feathers aren't looking as well as they do on hot sunny days .. hope these pics help you guys figure out what i can make

I have a lavender partridge. Anyone know what I could breed him to? Or is he just an oddball that won't produce anything worth a darn.
400

Looks more like a silver partridge.

I believe I answered you once a long time ago, and Sonoran Silkies answered you on the SQ thread. The answers still haven't changed...

Silver Partridge (please do not make up abbreviations unless everybody knows what they mean) x Black will give you.. Silver Partridge, Partridge and Black if the Black carries (is split to) Partridge. If not - you will get mostly black "split" to Partridge. The kids crossed back to the father will give you Silver Partridge or Partridge then. The Partridge (Gold) will come only if the Black is Gold based.

Your Buff boy carrying Partridge (This is called Smutty Buff because of the black on him) x Blue hen will give you whatever the genetics allow - Partridge, Smutty Buff, Blue Partridge, Blue Smutty Buff. If they both carry recessive white (that's what it is called) then you also have a chance of getting White. Your chick appears to be Blue Partridge - so you know that is a possibility.

Since that is what we know from looking at him - that's your answer. If there are other genetics that do not show on the outside (like the recessive white does not show) then you may have some surprises popping up.

no one fully told me what i could get .. thank you so much you fully answered my question .... would i be able to get splash since the black hen and silver partridge has a blue mother or ?? i thought the chick was just partridge but blue partridge sounds cool never had it before ... what do you think of the quality i know these ones aren;t the greatest but what about the kids do you think they will be better .. all of these i have . have defects like my silver partridge has a crooked beak but his hen has nothing wrong with her and then my smutty buff/ partridge has a broken toe that points backwards and then his hen has a tilt in her neck .. and then the smutty buffs kid has nothing wrong with them

I was wondering how your silkies like to sleep,I hear they like to sleep huddled up in a group,my 12 weeks old still sleep in a pile. I will be building them a coop soon and was wondering if the like to roost or if they prefer to sleep on the ground. I want to make them something they are going to be comfortable in next to my big girl pen.
