Awe I think he is adorable!
Thank you I have a wire cage I can use to do this. At what age would you take the silkie chicks to leave outside? I was pretty protective of the first pair and they have only been out a short time.when i start to integrate chicks i put them outside in a playpen i either use a dog crate or xpen. they can see each other that way. then there doesn't seem to be any issues when i finally put everyone together. there is the usual peck if they get in the way of a big but not much overall beating up!![]()
I am glad the tilted neck does not pass through. The crooked beak still can if it is genetic and was not an incubation issue.the tilt in her neck does not pass through genes ... im not sure why she got it but it never went through her genes and my silver partridge boy developed his crooked beak as he got older and the black hen when she was little had orange mixed in with her black im not sure if that helps with anything else or not but just letting you know .. i have gotten babies from my blue hen they were black dark blue and a lighter blue but they caught the cocci so they died and one of the partridge chicks died to .. she was more orange then the one in the pictures and axoa posted pictures on here and im pretty sure those are the ones from my smutty buff
I only have 2 in an outside coop right now and they don't roost at all? I don't know if it's normal or not. They do have a roost but I have never seen them on it.I was wondering how your silkies like to sleep,I hear they like to sleep huddled up in a group,my 12 weeks old still sleep in a pile. I will be building them a coop soon and was wondering if the like to roost or if they prefer to sleep on the ground. I want to make them something they are going to be comfortable in next to my big girl pen.
Oh, ain't love grand?

i only had her when she was 4 weeks old and up .. she had only a tint of orange on her because her father was buff/partridgeI am glad the tilted neck does not pass through. The crooked beak still can if it is genetic and was not an incubation issue.
I do not know why your black Hen had orange as a chick - unless it was Partridge or Buff? Was she black and orange or did she have chipmunk stripes?
I am sorry about your chicks, its always hard to loose that many. Who was the father of the chicks from the Blue hen? Is it the Silver Partridge boy? Because if it was then you already have an answer what his children will be with the Black hen, Black. The more Orange chicks I suspect would have turned out Smutty Buff - that's how it worked with my Buff x Blue crosses. The yellow ones turned out more Partridge - the Orange ones turned almost completely Buff - with just a bit of Partridge markings - so Smutty Buff.
Let us know how your crosses actually turn out when you get around to hatching more. That is really the only way to tell what your birds carry. We are just guessing until we see what comes out of those eggs.
