That's awesome. Now I need to see if she'll be going broody. I left her 3rd egg in the nest yesterday and she should be laying another one tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see what happens.![]()

I decided to check Stormey's 1st 2 eggs for fertility and eat them. They tasted great! Not sure about fertility. Here's a pic of the 1st egg (I broke the yolk, darn it). The 2nd egg had no markings at all. I tried to roll the yolk around to make sure it wasn't on the other side but didn't see anything.
1st egg. Fertile? I don't see the ring around the dot.

The white bullseye down at the bottom of the yolk is your fertility sign. The dark meat spot has nothing to do with it. Congrats!!That's awesome. Now I need to see if she'll be going broody. Can you post some pics of your silkie chicks?
Ok, this was as good as I could do. They were NOT happy to be taken away from their mom for a photo sesh!

As you can see in the pic, I've labled them as what I think they could possibly be. I thought the darker chicks were normal partridge, but a couple have blue where the black would normally be. All of the chicks fall somewhere within this color range. The darkest chick is the darkest of the bunch and the lightest is the lightest. Quite a few have vaulted skulls. I also have these advertised on CL, and my vaulted chicks are usually the first to be sold.

I hope this picture gives you an idea of what their feet look like. Most chicks have feathering on all of their toes, even the extras. Those that aren't as fluffy in the foot area still have well feathered middle toes. Spacing on their extra digits is a nice V shape![]()
Quote: You didn't post a photo showing hte crookedness, but it is likely to be something you can get rid of by carefully trimming his beak--probably over a few weeks or months time. He's a very attractive boy; reminds me of some of SilverSilkie's birds.
My silkie laid her second egg yesterday but thr trouble seems to be she has disappeared now... When I got home I always let all my chickens out to free range. My bigger girls go all over the yard and my silkie with her two adopted babies always stay near the back porch.
I heard my bigger girls squawk in the front yard and I ran outside and saw a dog run away from the back yard but with nothing in his mouth and not a trace of an attack. All chickens were accounted for except for her... We've got lots of trees around the yard so it's not possible that a hawk to get her.
Basically, what I'm wondering is... Is ths normal behavior for a silkie to disappear like this? My gut is telling me that she's wondered off into the weeds because she's gone broody and is trying to lay a clutch. My head is telling just be prepared for her to never come back![]()
