. This is my Silkie chick that hatched today her father is my black Silkie roo and mother is my light buff Silkie hen I am so glad she's here!! My first hatchling so far!!

And a fine looking little chickee it is!

Well it's been 48 hours since I got the duramycin for my girl that can't open her eyes. I've been helping her eat and drink the past few days, and today I got most if not all of the crust off of her eyes. But she still will not open them.. Is there anything else I can do.

So far I have used saline drops on her eyes
Given her duramycin 10 ( giving her 3 of the 1/4 teaspoon measurements per quart of water)
She is in her own brooder and is pooping normal
She is very thin, but I'm glad I can get her to eat.

Wash her head too, carefully.  When you wash a bird for the first time be aware that they can go into "shock" and may put their head down.  If you have any water in the bottom of the sink keep a close eye on her because she can drown.  While you are waiting for the soap timing watch her - if she gets any water into her lungs it can cause health problems.  After you rinse her off and let her dry you can give her some electrolytes in her water or something to help her recover.

I looked at my chicken emergency notes and I don't have any remedies for just the eyes, except for flushing them with saline solution. Not just drops, but flushing them by constantly running the salty water past her eyes until everything gone and she can open her eyes.

You say she will not open her eyes, can she open them? Does she open them and then shut them again? Or do they not open because they are glued shut inside? Chickens have two eyelids - if its gucky in there she might not be able to open them.

Hopefully you can get her to open her eyes, its hard to eat when you can't see the food.

Oh, did you check under her wing to see if there is any gucky stuff there? Usually if its respiratory and coming from their nose they will stick their heads under their wings and get guck under there too. If this isn't respiratory related, I have no clue... allergic reaction? Dust? Mites? Cigarette smoke? Just grasping at straws here...

Rub in the shampoo, then later rinse while holding her head tipped back so that water doesn't flow over her face.
