Silkie thread!

When selecting a Silkie, if it's more charcoal or light grey, and their size ... What would be the end result for color?.The ones I'm looking at are Bantams.. will they do well with larger hens like my light brahmas and barred rocks? Thanks

In the US all Silkies are Bantams - there are no Large Fowl. Some Silkies are smaller than others, my hatchery girl is half the size of my breeder quality girls.

I am unsure what the question on color is, if they are light gray they may be "Blue" and Charcoal is "Black" and Black x Blue will give you Black and Blue. If the birds are two tone in color they may be Silver Partridge or Gray.

I have a Silkie with my large fowl - but not in with the big roosters. She is hatchery quality and can see very well - I wouldn't put my BQ/SQ flock in there - they would get picked on too much because they can't see trouble coming.

I brought some of the babies out to enjoy this beautiful day!

I have 5 silkie hens two youth silkies & one silkie rooster with 4 barred rocks & one easter egger (all hens). They are together & free range during the day. The big chickens would pick on the silkies if the rooster wasn't such a good protector! He chases the big girls away from his flock including the young ones. He is truly a gem. My golden retriever protects them all. I separate them in the winter as they spend most of their time in our 30x40 pole barn.

Looks like your chicks are enjoying the outside pens alamb! I love getting them outside especially before it gets cold here in MN! I had a very broody ilkie mom & decided to let her have a late hatch. I just got them outside for the first time today. Picture below.

Its supposed to get down to 37 tonight. There are 7 silkie eggs in the box. I brought them in because the hens are just laying not broody. Im going to put them back in the morning since they may be laying a clutch. Is that okay?
